'13 QB from Mississippi, Ryan Buchanan

New QB to put in the mix....very impressed with him. Really, really good feet. Puts a lot of zip on the ball. Particularly like how you can tell he knows that offense like the back of his hand. Every throw he makes tends to be in rhythm with his drops. Little bit of a 3/4 release but if he's 6'3 that won't be too big of an issue. Seems to be pretty accurate on the deep ball but sometimes puts a little too much air under it (nothing detrimental though), but is very very accurate on the intermediate throws and shows incredible ability to fit the ball into tight windows.

Ryan Buchanan from Mississippi. 6'3, 205.

This is what I love about recruiting.....didn't even know about him until just now and he's every bit as impressive as some of the guys we've all ooh'd and ahh'd about, to me.

He's visiting Auburn today. Only a 3* on the ratings sites but this may be the most underrated kid I've seen this class. Would put him right there just behind Olsen and Rettig and right there with Bateman.

I used to live in Jackson several years ago. Jackson Prep and Academy are both Ole Miss owned territories, only problem is they dont produce too much talent. If we want this kid, we will end up having a battle with Ole Miss I bet.

If that's the case, let's hope he doesn't have an older brother in need of a scholarship. :)

Doesn't scare me, or I'd wager our coaches either.  ;)

He's got a great throwing motion. Another thing I failed to mention us that JP doesn't always play against strong competition. That being said I don't know if the other teams just had a difficult time reading his speed, but he looked quicker than a 4.82 in regards to his rolling and running. I think this guy could be a really underrated kid right now. Anyone know if he is doing many camps at all?

Ran into Coach Loeffler at Jackson Prep today...gave him a big WAR EAGLE.  Seemed to be a very nice guy.  He was looking at Prep's QB Ryan Buchanan.  My son plays basketball and football with Ryan.  Very exciting to have the big schools looking at Ryan.  Tennessee also had a coach at Prep today.  Things seem to be heating up in his recruitment.

Ole Miss is going to be a very tough opponent for him.  His family has been going to Oxford for several generations and part of the building at the Athletic Department is named after his grandfather.  Also MISS STATE was the first SEC school to show interest in him and offer him.  Think they are still a player for him.

Ryan is a good kid and a Eagle Scout.  Wonder how many Eagle Scouts are being recruited by SEC schools this year! Anyway the Prep community is excited about his recruitment.  Last player to be this highly recruited from Prep was Will Overstreet who started at DE for Tennessee for four years during their great run in the early 2000s.

Anyway we hope that Ryan becomes Auburn's QB signee in this class!  No real news here...just a local reporting.

I remember Will. Don't forget Swayze Waters...not highly recruited out of Prep, but just signed with the Giants I believe. I ended up at UAB after prep and was the do it all kicking specialist for them. Huuuuuge leg. I grew up with him playing peewee soccer and football until I moved in '99. I think for awhile he was with Detroit and the Steelers.

Actually Swayze just signed a contract with the NY Jets this past weekend according to his father.  Hope he makes the team.  Great kid that comes from a great family.

"Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler was in Jackson, Miss. on Monday to check in on one of the state's top prospects, Jackson Prep quarterback Ryan Buchanan.

Buchanan, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, claims an offer from Auburn, as well as ones from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Southern Miss and Syracuse.

"Coach Loeffler came by the school and stayed for a while," said Buchanan. "It felt good to see him there. He talked to my coach, my principal, the cafeteria workers, the janitors, he talked to everybody.

Rivals.com ranks Buchanan the nation's No. 25 pro-style quarterback in the 2013 class.

"He also got to see me throw and I think he was more impressed than seeing me on film. I thought everything went pretty well."

Buchanan said he and Loeffler have developed a good relationship, especially since the two were able to meet during Buchanan's visit to Auburn in late March. Loeffler, the Tigers' first-year coach, is a big reason Buchanan is strongly considering Auburn.

"I like Coach Loeffler a lot," said Buchanan. "I have a good relationship with him and with the whole staff. I talk to Coach (Gene) Chizik as much as possible, too.

"I am pretty high on Auburn. Auburn is definitely in the mix. I'm planning on going back pretty soon."

In addition to Auburn, also making a stop at Jackson Prep on Monday was a coach from Tennessee. Coaches from Alabama, Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and West Virginia visited last week. Buchanan said coaches from Florida, North Carolina and N.C. State are scheduled to visit this week.

"I'm talking to a lot of schools and I don't want to rule anybody out," Buchanan said of naming any leaders. "I'll just see how it plays out."

Buchanan said he would like to make his college choice by the end of the summer."

May not seem like much to most but I especially like the part where he said CSL talked to his coach, principal, cafateria workers and janitors. I love that fact that CSL seems to be an ambassador for Auburn and not just another coach going after a player. I remember a player one time that AU recruited, who ended up at UF. I know someone who asked him who the worst coach was that recruited him. He said it was Les becuase he put his feet up on his coaches desk. He said he was inerested in LSU but after that, he knew he didn't want to go there. Funny how things like this can be a determining factor.

Will be at Big Cat Weekend.  Will return to Auburn in early June to camp.

He plans a decision in mid-July

Looking good for AU

sounds like after the spring evals, Loeffler decided Buchanan is the top target (unless more info comes out on a Big Cat invite soon)

RB looks good, nice throwing, looks like he can adjust quickly, and looks like he can scramble as well. Like I said before I want who CSL wants as QB, and if RB is the man then lets get him on board.

Do you still feel like OM is his leader?

No....I feel like if we have or do extend a firm offer that we will land him. He is so utterly impressed by Loeffler that Buchanan really feels he will be a better QB at AU than anywhere else. But, UF is really pushing hard for him now and Ole Miss has their hooks in the family. In the end, I think we end up with him.

On Rivals, RB says he has not heard from Auburn in awhile.

Hmmm. Is there any chance we dont take a qb? Maybe there is a 2014 guy we want?? Kolumbo?

He is very high on Auburn and plans to attend BCW but I thought it is odd that he said he hasn't heard from Auburn in awhile.
