I was watching it and I heard the commentators saying Hugh Freeze wanted his linemen to trim down. I understand they run the spread now, but I would think he would take a look at the Tony Franklin project and realize smaller linemen won't  in the SEC. Thoughts?

We don't know that the Franklin system won't work.  We weren't committed deeply enough to it and it showed.  Any system can probably work when the head coach is willing to sell out to that system.
