Predictions for Arkansas's 2012 season with Smith as their HC

Arkansas's schedule sets up nicely for them and they think they have the best returning qb and rb in the conference in Wilson and Davis.  They are probably right about that and figure to have one of the best offenses in the conference.  Here is their schedule, did they do the right thing in hiring Smith as a caretaker/coach?

Strikes me as about the only choice they had this late in the year.  Smith and probably Petrino's assistants get them through the comng season and if things don't go well, Arky will hire a more notable coach for the long term.

Meanwhile, since it appears Smith initiated the contact, he seems to think he can impress the Hog fans in one season and is betting he can get an extension.  He has the top SEC returning QB and a good team...he might be able to pull it off.  Will be interesting to watch.

AU, lsu, uat are all a loss. SC and TxAM they prob take 1 of 2. I think Mst has a hard time keeping up with them so I will go 8-4, 4-4 in the SEC.

Texas A&M is an away game, same with Auburn, USCe and MSU.

This!

I think 9-3.  11-1 at best, 8-4 at worst. Depends on their defense, their O will still be great with Wilson at QB.

Their offense will be great "IF" their Oline shows improvement from last year.  Wilson running for his life in some of their games, and IIRC Vandy and OleMiss pushed that oline around a good bit as well.

Their defense hasn't been any good since Petrino got there, I'm not sure their defense will be any better.  But, i guess if we expect our own team to improve then I guess Arky will too.

Wilson may be a great qb but who is he going to throw the ball to? Their top 4 receivers are gone. I hope the rb recovers completely from his knee injury but what if he doesn't?

Wow only a 10 month contract. That doesn't show great confidence in him on Ark. part. What are recruits are going to think with that sort of contract? He has a great record as a head coach but as a head coach in a major conference he is only 22-26.

Top 3 receivers gone, best defensive player gone.

Pretty good qb, decent RB, mediocre oline, wr play is unsure.

Defensive line will get pushed around, can't stop another team besides auburn.

Arky has had our number for awhile. That needs to change. I see them going 8-4, they lose to bama, AU, LSU, and either USC/aTm

Thinking outside the box for a moment.  That situation really puts them in a bind in recruiting unless their new coach can bring recruits along with him.  Now, about Malzahn's situation at Arkansas State, you don't think... naw, no way!

9/3 or 10/2

Oline is strong and talented moreso than the past two years... Redshirting has helped tremendously.

Knile Davis is back to form, Tyler Wilson is better than ever.  All of a sudden Wingo hit his stride, it was weird to see in practices, he just hasnt had it and it seemed to click.

Recievers... We are fine, Between Hamilton, Wade, Funderbunk, and others...

Def will be much improved.  Special teams... Cmon man, we lost Adams...

But Hocker is a heckuva Kicker.

I think we have a BCS caliber Offense, and a Cap 1 caliber Defense...

and a Petrino is still calling the offensive plays... FWIW!...

WPS!

10-2 is out of the question! I could see a 9-3 record but this team is not in better shape than the last 2 seasons. Surely you are joking about an improved defense!   I fully expect ark to put points on the board but the first time they stall its game over against the top talent. O line should be ok......KD is going to have to prove he can do more than run through the 2009 AU defense. TW will make a star out some one of the recievers I am sure but Adams and Childs are going to be tough to replace! Let alone the tandem of the two on the field.

Adams wasnt even used that much last season... Hamilton and Wright were the 2 most productive. Childs was not really a factor since his injury.

Recievers.. again, Not worried one single bit.

D improved following the firing of Willy as DC, and the Hiring of Hanes from Ohio State along with his buddy...

Steve Caldwell of old fulmer tn fame is helping as well.

O Line, is stacked....

again, the only reason we will not be better than 9/3 10/2 is I believe the person on the sidelines playing chess with the plays makes a difference.. and JLS is not a BP...

If JLS can make the players believe it us against the world because of what happen with BP and the University getting embarrassed it could be a special year. But I do think with JLS you have other problems on actual gameday that can cost you against good teams. Best of luck except against AU.

A Petrino is calling the plays...but not THE Petrino.  Big difference.

Arky season depends on what happens in game 3.  If they beat bammer (when did that last happen?), then they have a shot at 10-2.  If bammer brings the hammer, look for a slide...a long slide.

The only salve for the current arky meltdown will be a trip to Atlanta and the BCSCG...anything less should be a let down.  But without the THE Petrino, fa getta bout it!

They should worry about winning in ATL before putting "arky" and "bcsnc" in the same sentence. Its not like they have a bad team.......just doesnt have NEARLY the talent of the best of the west and will depend on great coaching to make up the difference. Id say they have to go 7-5 or worse for it to be a let down. 8-4 I could understand grumbling.

If Bobby Petrino was coach they would probably go 10-2, With JLS they are likely looking at 9-3, 8-4.

I don't think you know how a team will respond or how lucky/unlucky they might be in these situations.  Bowden's first Auburn team went undefeated.  Saban's first bama team... not so much, ask UL-Monroe.  You just never know.
