Both Chizik and Dye seem to think we'll see definitive improvements starting this year.  A lot to look forward to!   :we:

This!

It's one thing for one coach to say it, but when two says it, you know there's something special brewing!

Hearing CGC speak last night he was very passsionate about his team and the way the schedule lines up, also he stated we have a lot of talent behind the starters whoever they may be.

That's because we do. Loads of talent up and down the roster, and some uber-talented veterans in there too, which was a bit lacking a year ago. We're going to be really good this year.

And next year we'll be even better.

This is what I've been saying....while we will be good to great this year.....next year and the year after...AUsome!!!!!

When he is negative or down about things.....we do "ok"

when he is neutral about things.....we do very well "14-0 well apparently"

When he is talking up the team....we will go 99-0 and win all the marbles ;P

We'd better get more than some d*mn marbles for going 99-0

Gonna go 119-0 because we will be required to play and beat all teams in the football division just to qualify as NC...gonna be great

My take from reading the article:

1. Chizik is expressing we are still young with a ways to go in determining who will be the major contributors in many areas.

2. We have a ways to go in learning the new systems, what we can and cannot do, and getting good at doing a few things instead of sorta good at a lot of things. Sorta what you have to do with a new system and young players.

3. I felt he was tempering expectations for the upcoming year a bit due to #1 and #2 above - a relatively young team installing new systems with some undecided position battles still.

4. The mentality and attitude of this team is very good. They have a desire to be great and work hard. The future is bright with a talented  group with the desire to succeed over the coming years.

Ahh so right you are...That's about 8 or 9 games a week. Hope Yox is getting the guys ready.  ;D

Nope, gotta win 120. UAT gets that do over thing, remember.

I agree wholeheartedly with tiger in miami! People keep asking "why is Chizik still using the young excuse?" (mostly turds) But the answer is cause its true. We played so many true freshmen last year and a true football fan knows that you dont become groomed for this league at least until close to the end of your sophomore or beginning of your junior season. With that being said there is so much talent on this team and it would not suprise me to see this team succced in every way, even in bringing the SEC and BCS title back to AU!  :wareagle:

The youth issue is because of just how good you have to be to compete for the SEC west.  Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas are very strong and then there are a few teams in the SEC east that are very strong too that you may have to deal with.  You have to be better than pretty good to compete for championships in the SEC west, you have to be very strong and lucky as well. Like the old song Frank Sinatra made so popular, if you can make it in the SEC west you can make it anywhere.  If you win the SEC west, the SEC and BCS are likely to follow.

It sounds great but it's gonna be a Tall Order. We will have to overcome having the 8th best coach in the league!!! LOL  >:(

Here is another article that is similar to the OP on Chizik's current team assessment.

That was a good article on Chiz. It is really amazing what he has done in the past few years as HC. It is approching Pat Dye levels. We did not have as far to go as when Dye arrived, but we were in so much worse shape than we really knew with our lack of depth and numbers in general. Chizik is right of course, we are almost there in terms of building a VERY solid foundation for a very good program for years to come. A championship calibre program for years to come.

I don't really share you "optimism" on this coming year.... average at best is my thoughts....

I do feel that 2013 could be a special year.

Now, that's not to say this coming year can't be really great, but I don't really see how any logical thinking person would expect it to be a great year.  I would think the exectations would be lower with a chance to overachieve.  Young talent (even if somewhat seasoned) is still young talent.  These guys may be 4 and 5 star players, but let's keep in mind that they will be going against 4 and 5 star players that have had 1 to 2 years more experience than them... The SECw isn't the B1G...

Having said that... 2013 will flip those roles.  We'll have a very talented AND experienced team moving forward.

I guess I am clearly not thinking logically. I'll give you several reasons why I expect a great year in 2012...

1. Gene Chizik 2. Scott Loeffler 3. Brian Van Gorder 4. Trooper Taylor 5. Curtis Luper 6. Jeff Grimes 7. Kevin Yoxall and here's the kicker (Yes, Intended) 8. Arguably the best punter and kicker in the SEC if not the nation.

None of them will touch the ball (at least with their hands anyway) but all of the above will contribute greatly to making up any perceived deficiences. We're young but we have the staff to coach these incredible athletes up and two weapons on special teams.

Wait...that sorta resembles logic. Sorry. :-X

I think we overachieved last year. 10 wins will be overachieving this year to me. 2010, considering our pass D, some say we overacheived. I hope we continue this streak! I agree about 2013. I don't think that winning the SEC will shock many outside the program like winning it in 2012 would.
