One of the most coveted linebackers in the country not long ago, Jeff Luc never broke into the starting lineup for Florida State -- and apparently never will. NoleDigest.com has learned Luc will transfer.

Florida State is considered relatively thin at the linebacker position beyond the starting lineup, and the Seminoles got even thinner Wednesday because junior Jeff Luc has decided to transfer.

NoleDigest.com has learned that Luc, who in 2010 was a five-star signee from Port St. Lucie (FL) Treasure Coast High School, is all but a memory for FSU. The 6-foot, 252-pounder could be on his way to Kansas State, although Ole Miss, TCU and South Florida are reportedly in the mix, too.

Luc spent the majority of his two-year 'Noles career backing up Nigel Bradham -- he is considered a second- to third-round prospect in the NFL Draft -- at the weak-side linebacker position. But instead of promoting Luc to the starting role upon Bradham's graduation, the coaching staff moved junior Christian Jones from the strong side in an effort to employ him as more of a playmaker in coordinator Mark Stoops' scheme. Luc was never given an opportunity to compete with senior Vince Williams and junior Telvin Smith in the middle or Nick Moody on the strong side, even though Moody was a safety for his first three years in Tallahassee.

In the annual Garnet and Gold Game on Apr. 14, Luc started on the weak side for the Garnet team and played well with six tackles, two pass breakups and an interception of Florida State senior quarterback E.J. Manuel. However, rumors continued to circle around the program that Luc was quite unhappy, so his departure does not come as much of a surprise.

I would be shocked of our coaches haven't already been in contact with him!

I remember this guy.

May the beatings begin, was not aware of this guy looks good to me. What are the off the field issues and the reason he is transferring?

The article says he was a 4-5* recruit and is projected to go 2-3 round in the NFL draft.  Yet, for whatever reason Fisher/Stoops won't let him start on defense and they are putting younger players in front of him on the depth chart.  There's gotta be a reason the kid of that talent and potential is not being utilized and is getting no playing time.  FSU is thin at LB and has been for a while now.

He was the #1 inside lb with Rivals(4*), #2 with Scout(5*), and #1 with BSpn(5*). The only thing i could see wrong is that he may not have good work ethic or some off the field problems.

Well, we sure don't need those issues, the coaches just purged the team of some folks like that.

Maybe Jimbo purged him b/c he couldn't figure out how to pronounce his last name.  (is it pr like Luke or Luck?)

Maybe they want taller LB's. Is he really only 6' and weighs in over 250? Sounds like a junior high center. I imagine he has to be good at what he does given the lofty rankings. I cant view the videos but ill take it he brings lumber to work.
