Waaaaaaaaaayy too extreme of a punishment in my opinion. Sure, what he and the other guys did was incredibly stupid, but the whole season?  :dunno:

I actually agree with the punishment.  IMO, he's lucky to be allowed back on a football field.

Seriously? He did what he was ASKED to do. It's not like he went out there on his own and said "I'm gonna go kill someone". The coaches (his higher authority) gave him the instructions and he followed through with it like everyone else on the team! Yet he gets punished unfairly and asked to miss twice as many games as the next guy punished?

That's definitely fair. The span of a career in the NFL is 3 years on average. And Goodell has the nuts to tell this man I can cut your career AND your primary source of income for a full year? Yeah right.

I think I heard on the radio yesterday that he actually was in on providing the cash incentives out of his own pocket so if that is true he would deserve a harsher penalty than some of the other players.

I probably would've suspended him something like 8 games. I do think 16 is a little excessive but overall the Saints got off very easy on the players' suspensions at least.

They should revoke the Saint's charter membership IMO.  Clean house and move membership to Los Angeles

Agreed. Let's see....Ndamukong Suh can slam a players head into the ground with his hands then stomp on his arm after the whistle was blown and that earns him 2 games. And that's with him already having being disciplined 5 previous times for on-field conduct. Suh has been listed as the "dirtiest player in the game" in a poll limited to NFL players. He's had nine personal fouls in 2 years, but has only been fined $42,500.

Now Vilma is suspended for an entire season and will loose 2.6m, with not one shred of public proof that he's ever tried to intentionally hurt a player. All the hits they have shown of him hitting Warner and Favre on espn over and over again are clean, legal hits.

Yea, makes sense.

Wow, really? Pretty harsh if you ask me. Fortunately, that won't be considered.

Boom

Vilma has gone and sued the commish for defamation now. THis is gonna be fun.

I would've said Vilma has a decent case, but as a public figure he has an extra hurdle to jump because he must show that Goodell had actual malice in announcing Vilma's suspension. However, this will force the NFL's hand--for better or worse--to publicly release the evidence they based their suspension of Vilma upon.
