Route Running, Catching, Understanding of the offense and defenses, and YAC. He wont burn anyone but he is tough to tackle and is a more physical WR than he gets credit for.

Route running

this. His routes are so crisp and he can get open when the play becomes an improv QB scramble. His blocking is good as well and I think his overall work ethic is why he is as good as he is.

Route Running,  I remember when he was being recruited I heard several "experts" say he is one of the best route runners in the nation.  I also think Darvin Adams is an excellent route runner.

Honestly, yeah, he runs very precise routs, He catches the ball well, he finds holes in the zone..basically does all the little things right. But that's not what makes him great.

His football IQ is astronomical. That's why he does all the little things right. Add to that his natural athletic ability which, while not exactly mind blowing, is plenty adequate for even a player of average intelligence, along with his work ethic, and you come up with the serious NFL prospect you get in Blake.

Well said, Red.

Does anyone else see all the similarities between Emory and Darvin? Neither seemed to have "explosive "athleticism or overwhelming size, but both can do all the little things EXTREMELY well. Great hands, great routes, dependable blockers, etc...

My question is: Does anyone think Emory could slip down in the draft much like DA did? I'd hate to see it happen, but if DA wasn't drafted at all,  what are EBs prospects looking like?

There are similarities, sure, but quite frankly Blake is a far better athletic prospect than Adams, IMO. Considering the name recognition he gets from his father (his lineage is a known quantity) and the job he has done on the field in the SEC, including in the national championship game, if he has a good year this year and remains injury free (which is a bigger deal than his statistics, actually), I expect him to go somewhere between round 3 and round 5.

The biggest advantage Emory has over Darvin is the amount of time he's had to be evaluated now. Darvin had a good year in 09, but when your team goes 7-5, gaining only a couple of games on the previous year in which the head coach got fired, it's not such a big deal. 2010 gave both of them center stage, and while Adams went pro following the season (which I'm not sure I blame him, tbh, though I would have loved to had him back last year), Blake spent last year standing out in our receiving corps. Now, we went 7-5 again, but this time we were the defending national champs, so a few more eyes were pointed our direction.

A big year this year for Emory might well move him into the second round. I don't see him ever making it into the first, but the second is doable. Of course, that likely takes Auburn winning 10 games, Blake being the primary guy and hauling in over a thousand receiving yards, etc, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities.

He does everything well and is a lot faster than he is given credit for being. He may not have a blazing 40 time but in 3 years I can't recall an instance of him being caught from behind.

Looking back to 09, Scout had him as a 3 star and the 95th best receiver. I'd like to see the list of the 94 guys who were supposed to be better than Blake. (Rivals did list him as a 5.8, 4 star though).

Which brings up an interesting tangent- Has anyone noticed that our best receiver every year seems to be a guy who doesn't necessarily have the greatest measurables in size and speed?

In my opinion, Courtney Taylor was the best WR on the roster while he was at AU. There were other guys with more speed or "talent", but Campbell was looking for Taylor when he needed a 3rd or 4th and long.

Since then we have also had walk-on Rod Smith and Darvin Adams, who played ahead of our more highly recruited WRs.

There are obviously different factors that contribute to that but it is interesting that our most dependable WRs usually aren't the biggest or fastest recruits coming in.

Good after the catch is correct. He has great body control. This is something you see scouting evaluations talk about and you can only see it on the field in game situations. 40 times etc., never show this.  The reason this is so important is that a reciever very seldom catches a ball in full stride. He must adjust then excelerate quickly and aggressively to get YAC. TR is also great at this (Great body control) just needs more opportunities. I noticed in the spring game there are a few guys on the team with great size and speed that just do not have this which I believe will mean they will not meet the expectations that some on this board have for them. Courtney Taylor was the best we have had with this skill set, that get and go M Crabtree type player.  R Louis has this!!
