If at all true, I don't like CMs chances of even competing for the starting QB job in the fall. I would think he'd need each and every throwing session and team workout he could get. Not to mention absorbing the playbook with the other QBs. I could be waay off, but if this were true it sounds like he's all but given up. Let's hope that isn't the case. DyeEraTiger 0
I don't know about todays players but summer jobs seemed to be the norm 20 yrs ago. Probably a little different for qb's but this doesn't seem that big of an issue to me. He can study film, work out and do most things from home. These workouts are when he will have a chance to get familiar with new receivers (i.e. timing, get familiar with how they make their cuts etc.) If he goes home he isn't thinking about starting. TheDob06 471
I don't think it is such a bad idea for him to get a summer job. It will help his resume for the future outside football. I know these kids put a lot of time and effort into football, but I think not at least considering your future outside of it is a mistake. If true, maybe Clint realizes that he may not play football forever, which is highly likely for any college football player. I give props to him for landing himself a job that will better his future. Also, if Clint is getting a summer job, I don't think it means he has given up or won't compete. Do the guys literally work out every day during the summer? Clint could conceivably work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (and even work out on his own after work), which would put him in Auburn with the team on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The summer jobs I worked while going to school weren't full time so maybe Clint's rumored summer job isn't either. He may know he's going to be back up already and that could lead to him seeking summer job. Which I felt was the case for a while now, just not released. But my question still stands unanswered. If he's off at home getting a summer job would lead me to believe he's done playing. I was under the assumption that scholarship athletes on a full football ride were not allowed to get jobs. Also shouldn't they be enrolled in the summer semester in order to participate in fall camp, which happens in the summer semester? mustache eagle 2,515
maybe the kid needs some money?!?!?! why is it such a crazy idea that a +/-20 year old young man would like to actually work for his own spending money, regardless of other activities ... including college football. I say good for him. another thought ... maybe his major is building science or some other construction related field, then a job in construction would be very smart for his non-football future. when else would he do that? not every person on the planet thinks through the prism of college football ... its called being well rounded. if it costs him the starting job, then that is a decision for him and only him. EDIT: i will concede the possibility that working this summer could just as well be him making some money to get him through a transfer, "sit-out" year ... i shudder to think that he would leave. but i have noted in other threads in the past that if someone else was named the starter prior to fall semester, that he could leave. gAUlf 1
Not that I expected CM to be name the starter for next season, but if this is true he may even slip to 3rd string if he is indeed going to be playing football in the future. CGC been consistent in saying that the summer workouts will go a long way into determining who will be the starter in the fall. That the players are going to have to put the work in. I hope CM hasn't just thrown the towel in. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/122239-rumor-mill/#findComment-1583467 Share on other sites

I doubt Clint is going to slip to 3rd string unless he has some kind of discipline problems or whatever. No way the coaches bump a true freshman QB who's as raw as any we've had above an experienced signal caller, even if that signal caller isn't the best. I don't see any reason to pull the redshirt off of Zeke Pike to play him in mop-up duty against La. Monroe or NMS when he could use his redshirt year to learn the offense and develop as a QB. Unless Zeke shows up in fall camp light years ahead of Clint and earns the spot fair and square, I see no practical reason to play him this year. He needs the redshirt year for his eligibility and opportunity to play as much as for coaching.
