Corey Lemonier makes Mel Kiper's first 2013 NFL Draft Big Board

If Lemonier is projected in the first round at the end of the season then I believe he will probably enter the draft. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't

If he finds himself between 255-260 by the end of the season, and improves in stopping the run then I think he'd have to take the shot.

Great points. Weight may not be as a big of an issue as run defense will be. He needs to get into the 250-range though IMO. Granted, I am no draft guru or scout.

I enjoy the blog btw. Good stuff there.

IF CL has a very good year and his stock is high as a potential draft pick I am sure he would seriously consider leaving early. Hate any AU player leaving early but I would surly understand his logic for heading to the NFL.

CL will greatly improve (and all D players) with CBVG and AU running a NFL-Defense.

Also love to see Auburn players getting drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Lemonier doesn't have to put on much weight, he will be playing 3-4 olb in the NFL.  He could play that at his weight now.

I agree with this.  I think he'll make a great 3-4 OLB with his pass rushing ability.

Yep. Would be nice if he could leave with two rings though.

I'd rather he leave with 3. ;)

Here's an article about it that has what Kiper said about him.

Jonesy have you ever talked with Corey? I am only speculating from a couple conversations I ahve had with him, friends of mine on the team, and my friend who was his lab partner/good friend. Corey loves being in college. The things he says about the college life are the things my buddies who are trying to convince their parents for a 5th year instead of getting a real job. I almost get the feeling that is exactly how he sees it too. He is a pretty intelligent guy too and works reasonably hard int he classroom according to my friend who was his lab partner. Which guy looking to enter the draft and skip out on education actually puts effort above passing in classes?

I don't think he's looking to enter the draft, but I do think there is a strong possibility that he will request the NFL scouts' grading sheet that goes to all seniors and any juniors who request it, and if he's graded in the first round, where he's looking at becoming a multi-millionaire in just a few months...well, he wouldn't be the first kid with his head screwed on straight to be lured away by such tempatation.

I do appreciate Corey and his contribution to the time and will not  rehash the pros and cons of staying for his SR year.  If he can go to the NFL after next season as a high draft pick he almost has to leave.  If he truly wants to complete the education he will. If his aspiration is to play on Sunday, he goes and I wish him the best and am happy for another successful Auburn man.

I completely agree with this post. The chance of injury if he returns as a senior will be weighed heavy in the equation. I don't know the financial status of his family in that he can afford to take the risk of returning.

We all want what's best for all members of our Auburn Family. It's selfish to want him to stay when he is considered NFL ready with the opportunity to make lots of money. We should wish all of our Auburn Family the best in hopes that they will carry the Auburn name with pride long after their gone.

You take out an insurance policy if you are a 1st or 2nd round projected pick after your junior year - see Andrew Luck and many others.

With the new rookie wage scale, you are stuck with your first contract for your first few years. There is a significant differencein initial pay between a late first / 2nd round pick and early 1st round pick. And you will have that difference for I believe 3 years.

It can make a lot of sense to stay in school and improve your draft status financially as well as the continued maturity (physically and mentally).

I do not think it is an easy decision at all unless you are projected top 15. And even then, if you enjoy school and have goals to achieve in school that remain (Andrew Luck), it still may not be an easy call.

The comparison with Andrew Luck is not a good one. Luck's family is "well off" and he could afford to wait another year.

I agree with you about the rookie salary scale being down since Sam Bradford's mega-millions rookie contract, but a lot of these kids have nothing or very little. They want to give something back to their parents from whom they love.

The rookie contracts are smaller, but endorsements can help with some of that loss (see Tim Tebow and Cam Newton). Tebow will make more money in endorsements than he ever will on the playing field.

Hard work and dedication can more than make up for that lost revenue in the 2nd contract.
