A Serious Chip on ALL Shoulders

Picked to win no more than 8 games by nearly all analysts, and many fans. Our Coach, one year removed from a national title, is ranked 36th in sporting news joke of a coaches ranking. Not only have our players been called out but essentially our coaches too. As many of us know, AU seems to perform better when mediocrity is expected. And I really do have a feeling that our O-Line, Frazier, and RB's are going to burst on to the scene this year with a quickness and get the rest of the team feeling like we can't lose. That's what it took in 2010, and that's what will lift us up this year. I feel like we will win NO LESS than 9 games, with a chance to win it all if players really click with the new coaching schemes. I understand that coaching staff changes CAN take a while to take hold and allow for players to develop to fit the mold, but that is not always the case. While Gus Malzahn was a genius, his offense would not have succeeded like it did without Cam.  Not sure that it would have ever brought us another NC, but with Frazier at the reigns it may have. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have some players that are waiting on the right coordinator to explode. "Jason Campbell, meet Al Borges."  Anyway, the point I am here to make is that I think we will see improvement on both sides of the ball, not a drop off due to coaching changes. CBV's coaching technique will allow for instant improvement as it takes a lot of the thinking and reads out of the equation. Line up where you are supposed to and stay with your assigned man or zone. Even though Kiehl may have succeeded under Malzahn, Scott Loeffler seems to be the real deal at QB development, so there should be no shortage of success at the QB position. I think the real question is how good of a play caller Loeffler will be, and I personally think he will surprise a ton of people. If anything I think many have no question that he is excellent at developing talent, so they wonder why he was not picked up at this level already. But if the play calling clicks at all the right times and places, and if the players get a really good grasp of his system this could be a VERY special year.

We have some seasoned stars on this team and we should be very good this year. I see 9 reg season wins minimum, and a possibility of 10. We could win it all, but it will take everyone on the team laying it on the line every week and working really hard this off season and throughout the regular season.

I imagine Blake and Lutz are leaders on the offensive side, and one or more of those DL may be taking charge on the D. I could see Bates leading by example at the LB spot. He's a baller.

This team has talent. If they can get it together this Fall, I believe good things are going to happen. I almost feel bad for Clemson...almost.  ;)

I would also like to think KF is a leader on the offensive side of the ball.

He certainly *seemed* to be the most vocal of the QBs.

A lot of polls are skewed numbers that are slanted to the pollsters opinion. This one is really, really messed up.

I hope that the offense can gel quickly. IMO that is what will get the ball rolling. Our D just needs to survive Clemson...and if they can allow less than 20 points, that will go a long way in solidifying them as a unit. Clemson will no doubt attack in the passing game. Lets just hope that our D-line's pressure will affect the QB. Hopefully between now and then our LB corps will have some quality depth and our DB's will all feel good about their abilities to cover the deeper routes that get off clean. This game will completely set the tone for the whole season. If we lose we will be able to bounce back for sure but we will have not just improvements, but serious improvements that will need to be made to contend in the west. But if we win handily I really think we will be a hard team to beat by anyone. Nothing in football is bigger than momentum.

Jake Holland is the leader of the defense, and I feel like he's going to be outstanding at it. While he is gifted athletically, he has always been more of a quiet force. Had like 150 tackles his senior year of high school, but it took a mass of Auburn fans complaining to get him moved up from a three star because he has never been a flashy player.

And that's what you want as a leader. A hard nosed, blue collar type not afraid to get in the dirt and do the grunt work. We have plenty of flash all around him; what we need out of Jake is to be the steady force making all the little plays whether he gets lime light or not...and the good thing is that that's exactly who he is.

Oh yeah, don't feel bad for Clemson. They deserve to be beaten down.

I think you're spot on, Red.

I understand why Chizik doesn't get elite ratings.  He's had one elite season, one awful one (his second at ISU), and some mediocre ones.  I do not get, though, quite a few of the people ranked above him.  Seems like he's not getting credit for what he's actually accomplished.

Of course, time sorts all these things out.

Unless a person is blind, they can see what Chiz is putting together here at AU. AU now has quality athletes 2 and in some cases 3 deep on the depth chart and more on the way. Most of those players now have the experience, strength and size. Now its time to win and winning year after year will take care of the opinion part.

I agree with what you said.  While CGC is putting together a solid foundation and building on it, the polls are looking at what has been done and the current state.  When AU begins to reep the fruit of what CGC is building, he will get his due recognition.  Until then, we will continue to support him in every way.  :wedance:
