Chizik

Recommended Posts

I had someone tell me that they read an article that suggsted chizik is on the hot seat this year. I thought that was ridiculous but an auburn buddy of mine said if he had two more mediocre seasons. Hed be all for it. He said he has too much talent to underachieve consistently. What is everbodys opinion on this? I think hes fully capable,  granted hehad a ace up his sleeve every game with cam and nick in 2010.

Yeah, to suggest that he's on the hot seat right now is absurd, but as AuburnEngineer just pointed out, if we go 7-5 regular season for the next two years, then he will be.

I'm unconcerned.

Agreed, the train is picking up speed.  The only reason Mean Gene's seat is hot is because he's sitting on top of the boiler with the throttle wide open!  WDE!

People that don't realize what Chizik inherited when he came to Auburn are the ones who say he is a substandard coach. He was given a beaten down team, mentally and numbers wise, and had to basically start from scratch. Not only rebuilding the team, but also doing the same thing Dye had to do with instilling a strong belief in what these guys could accomplish if they realized who they were and what a great University they were attending. He had to practically rebuild the belief in Auburn being an elite school again. It's not like he was given an incredibly loaded and talented team and just squandered the talent.

I think fans should fully expect an 8-4, 9-3 type year this year which is pretty mediocre and 10 wins or more next. If the recruiting stays on target we should be in for a multi year 10+ win stretch.

I agree with you on that. However, not only does the recruiting need to hold up in terms of recruiting rankings, the highly rated guys also have to stay enrolled and live up to their billing (else you better sign a LOT of over achievers).

Either way, if a coach is winning and improving, you have to give him 5 years so he can have 4 full years of recruiting, not counting the first year when he got in late.

Question, has there EVER been a coached fired in less than 4 years after winning a NC or going undefeated?  Not including those fired for off field issues.

I rather doubt it, but then again, Bill Curry was essentially fired the very offseason after winning a share of the SEC Championship and multiple coach of the year awards, so I suppose anything is possible...

With regard to recruiting, I would say that the ratings don't really matter, but at this point, they kinda do. Nothing is set in stone, but the coverage of college football recruiting has reached a level where virtually all of the best players are well known before they ever sign a letter of intent. Ergo, your point about keeping the highly rated guys in school and on the field is perfectly valid...but quite honestly, the way we've been recruiting the last few years, it's not the same kind of deal as it was with Tubs. I mean, with a couple of exceptions, he generally got a couple of blue chippers and then went after his diamonds in the rough, and towards the end the blue chippers he recruited mostly signed with us because no other reputable program was willing to risk that they would qualify.

On the other hand, Chizik just signed the lowest rated of his full signing classes, and it still had 13 four star prospects in it. Yeah, I think we'll be fine.

That 'someone' is either misinformed, a complete idiot or all 3. What people forget is that those Aces were backed up by a littany of senior leadership and unselfish players like Darvin Adams, T. Zach, Kodi Burns, Bynes, Coleman, Blanc, etc....They played their hearts out and made many plays down the stretch that ended up being differenc-makers in close ballgames. QUIT listening to the media and come to your own educated conclusion. That 2010 team was not only Cam and Nick. That's just a ridiculous notion.

In no way, shape or form is Chizik even close to a hot seat. We lost a ton of talent and exerience last season. We are rebuilding and we'll be ready.

. . . maybe if the knob is broke for his vehicle's seat warmer.

Actually, seems like I heard he recently got an indoor jacuzzi installed in his house. I guess that would fit...

He just read an article that had a list of coaches on the hot seat. Like i said, I thought it was ridiculous, then one of my other buddies thats usually level headed and well informed said if Chiz had 2 more mediocre seasons he'd be fine with it, and i was just wondering whats people's opinions were because Ive been thoroughly impressed by Chiz.

The way I see it, CGC hasn't lost to a team that we were honestly better than since he's been here, with the one exception being Kentucky a few years back.  And if that trend continues, we should be fine with the way we've been recruiting. I think CGC is here for the long haul, and I couldn't be happier about it.

All the  talk about "Hot Seat".  If you do a comparison of Coach Chizic's won loss record for his first three years at Auburn and Saban's First three years in turdville, I believe one might be inclined to say that coach Chiz is just as Great of a coach as Saban.  CGC - 30/10     Saban -   33/8.  Most everyone wants to look at a coaches win/loss record and determine if they are a good coach or not, so I wanted to just compare apples to apples by looking at what they have done at their current positions.. There is no way that Auburn has a worse season this years than last, even if they do, I say nobody faces the hot seat till 3 years down the road after the new coordinators have had time to get the rights recruits to fit their schemes....

I would also like to point out that CGC had to take what he could get for coordinators to begin with. I would dare say that neither (maybe CGM) would have been on staff if he could've cherry picked like he was able to this year.

We have a BADA$$ for a DC and a QB machine that understands more than one offensive schemes. JMO FWIW

What if he's 1-4 against that team after his 5th year? we're not gonna get another chance to win another BCS National Championships unless we start beating that other in-state team every year.

As much as I hate bama, they have been ranked 1, 2, or 3 when we have played them with CGC as HC. Try to keep a little perspective on this topic for the past 3 years...... Did I mention that I hate bama.....

Right. Because we were right at the front of the line when we went undefeated during a six year winning streak over UAT, but were left out in the cold when we went undefeated in a year after two consecutive losses to the turds.

two years is an eternity to a college football coach. yes he could be on the hotseat then as could just about any coach that is paid 3+million a year. but as of right now he is doing just fine and that talk is not warranted at this time.

Again, if Chizik only wins 7 regular season games for the next two years, THEN he'll be on the hot seat. As it is, we could have a losing record this year and his job wouldn't be in jeopardy.

**NOTE** In no way do I think we will have a losing record this year or any year in the foreseeable future, I'm simply using the example to underscore how much job security Gene Chizik has right now.
