Sometimes I get a good feeling....

Oooooh sometimes, I get a good feeling.

I get a feeling that I've never never never never had before, no no,

I get a good feeling, yeah.

But seriously, does anyone else feel the way I did before the 2010 season? When rumors started to leak out of AU that "This Cam Newton kid is the real deal"? We have the talent, we have the experience, we have the depth. Our LB corps is the only place that the depth is arguable, and to me that is only due to EXPERIENCE, not the talent. I'm sure there are a couple of guys that are sick of hearing that our LB corps is thin because they are "the thinness". Not to mention we have one or two coming in that could be difference makers. I think there are some guys waiting to explode there just the same as our RB's that are extremely talented, just not EXPERIENCED (with the exception of OMAC).

The only question mark that is pulling us down to 8 wins in many people's eyes are the coaches and the newness that they bring. Let's review that. Two questions will be asked by ALL (and rightfully so)  in relation to our new staff.

1-Do the coaches gel with the players? Or in other words, do the players buy into what the coach is selling?

2-Do the players have a good grasp of the playbooks?

Lets address number one first. Our D got an automatic upgrade with BVG. An NFL guy that knows the in's and out's of what is expected at the next level. Check. Our QB's that needed to grow up and develop into winners at the collegiate level got Tom Brady's personal mechanics improvement trainer. He also had the 8th ranked running game in the nation at TEMPLE. Check. Both of these guys looked SOOOOO impressive to me on AU football everyday spring edition. They are in your face, and accept nothing less than perfection. They also seem great at explaining what they want to see and how to do it.

On to number two. BVG's strategy is line up and hit which the players seem to love in comparison to Roof's read and react strategy. Loeffler has been the talk of players and recruits and they are all saying they like the playbooks and or what type of sets they will be running. The desire to grasp the playbooks because it will improve them at the next level is there, which is half the battle. The only thing that could hold us back this year is if they actually can grasp enough plays fast enough to keep opponents off balance. It is all in our players hands to believe in themselves and hammer the playbook. Let's hope they realize that the difference between a good season and a great season lies in that extra hour of studying. It lies in the hands of an 18-21 year old who needs to have fun, but also needs to learn responsibility. Thank goodness the coaching staff is telling them this, and that the coaches are men who the players will NO DOUBT listen to because of their proven success with NFL talents.

Again, as you all know, ALL the pieces are there. Talent, Experience, Depth. The only question is the newness of the coaches playbooks, but that is not always a bad thing. The example I used before and will continue to use..."Jason Campbell, meet Al Borges"

That is all.

Defensively, I think players pick this up way faster than the offense...and this is typically what you see in spring practice and fall camp.  You always hear that "the defense is ahead of the offense right now".  There is a reason...

You will hear nay sayers all summer long talk about how bad it will be for us since we have two new coordinators, especially from the bammers.  But didn't bammer bring in a new offensive coordinator before the 2008 season?  How did that turn out?  They can't have it both ways.

Bottom line: the players are resilient...they will soak up the new systems like a sponge.  Then they will play the games...really well!  :we:

i agree with virtually everything you have stated, but one item you really didnt mention ...

i agree:

we are talented and deeper, more experienced

our D should flourish by being unleashed.  i believe these stronger more experienced players will do very well under the new D regime

we have a true teacher of the game with loeffler.  our qb's will do very well under him

my concern (not a disagreement)

loeffler is relatively an unknown as a play caller.  was temple his O or was he implementing someone elses - plus the qb talent concern at temple and its affect on what he would normally do.  what about his time at FL?  supposedly he called the last bowl game he was at michigan - if that is the true nature of his O, then color me impressed ... but that was one game ...

i trully think he has the talents and the smarts to do it.  i just hope he can do it his first year at auburn.  i am not concerned about the players and their uptake of the system, more the ability of lefty to call a game.  hoping the absolute best.

The more I think about it, the less I am worried about Lefty's play calling. In his last two gigs, he was calling the plays, but for other people's offenses. Soooo... if anything, his play calling ability is what we have seen, his offense is what we haven't. If he was successful calling plays when he was working within the constraints of another person's ideas, then it makes since to me that he should at least be AS affective calling the system that he created. To me, the real question is whether he knows enough to create a system that works... and I think that we all agree that we believe that he does.

had not thought of it in this manner.  i like this logic and will go forward from here using it ... of course if it doesnt pan out - well then it will be ALL your fault!

Actually, no, I don't feel the way I did before 2010. There is the similarity that I think we have the potential to shock the world, but the biggest difference is that it's not a we-better-win-this-year-because-we-lose-most-everything-next-year type deal. I honestly feel we have the potential to win the national championship in each of the next three seasons, and considering the way our recruiting his going for this year, I feel pretty good about beyond that too.

Yea I see what u mean but I was just referring to the positive feeling I had about our team before the season...not referring to the negative thoughts about the season to follow

Where's Shadoww?  :dunno:  I need a REAL prediction!

Okay here you go. We lose 2 this year. LSwho and as bad as I hate it to either uat or uagly. However we get into the SECCG game on a tiebreaker where we play USCe and win by 10. We finish the regular season ranked 3 or 4 and do not get to play for the NC (This Year  ;)).  In 2013 we run the table and beat USCw in NC game!

Could it be that Chiz brought him in because he is so green? I will try and explain my thought. Chiz is a defensive minded coach. Chiz knows that if the Auburn offense has the ball then the Auburn defense is winning. He brought in a a solid DC and Chiz knows that the defense should be our strong point for the next few years. I truly beleive that Chiz tries not to meddle in his coordinaters jobs. He lets them do their job but maybe just maybe, with a young fairly inexperienced play caller, he can pull the strings just a tad more. I was not on the sidelines nor was I in the coaches meetings but it looked like to me that Gus' offense last year was changing to try and give the defense a little help. Many reasons it could have been but maybe just maybe Chiz asked for some of the changes. Only a thought.
