AU visited 4-star RB Alvin Kamara today.  He is part of the "package deal" with Reuben Foster and Trey Matthews.    UGA, Bama and USC are the teams to beat.  Auburn has already offered.

Top performers: New Level Atlanta

One of the four-star running back's best traits is his ability to catch the ball, and that was evident Saturday. As he did at the Georgia Junior Bowl in December, Kamara was excellent in the passing game. He gets off the line well, runs sharp, crisp routes and had little problem creating separation. Once Kamara makes the catch, he is particularly dangerous in the open field because of his speed and one-cut ability. He easily could play receiver at the next level if needed.

After watching Rivals250 running back Tyren Jones of Marietta (Ga.) Walton and four-star tailback Alvin Kamara of Norcross (Ga.) for two days, it became abundantly clear: These are two of the most complete backs in the class. Not only are they excellent at running the ball, but each is capable of being a major asset in the passing game at the next level. Having watched Kamara at the recent Georgia Junior Bowl, it wasn't a surprise to see him catch the ball well and make great moves after the reception in the open field. In college, look for the receiving skills of each to be heavily utilized. It looks as if both are capable of being every-down guys.

Georgia Junior Bowl game breakdown

WR Alvin Kamara, Norcoss: One of the least-heralded players on the East offense, all he did was catch eight passes for 115 yards - both game-highs. Kamara not only is fast, but proved to be quite difficult to tackle. More than once, he broke free from a defender to produce a nice gain.

The last two weeks have brought Norcross, Ga. running back Alvin Kamara offers from Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, and Alabama. Last Thursday, Kamara nabbed another as Auburn extended an offer.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound back spoke with Auburn running backs coach Curtis Luper before later learning of his offer.

"He was just talking to me about the program, and I called my coach after I talked to coach Luper and that's how I found out I had the offer," said Kamara. "It's kind of cool, because I have the offer from Alabama, so I guess it's that in-state competition.

"I talked to coach Luper for a solid ten minutes and he sounds like a good guy. It all depends on how I feel when I go up there. They might be in the mix."

Kamara considers himself a balanced running back after rushing for 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns during his junior season. Kamara's ideal college offense is the pro-style, with the ultimate goal being the NFL.

As for his knowledge of Auburn, Kamara knows enough.

"They win," he said. "I haven't been there. But you watch college football, and Auburn's name will come up. I know Ben Tate, Michael Dyer, there's a few backs I know about. They won a national championship, that's always good. Obviously they are doing something right if they have a national championship under their belt. If a school with that drive and work ethic to win a championship is interested in me, that's a positive."

Kamara has been to Auburn once before, but under unique circumstances as he and a friend were passing through the area.

"It was one of those spontaneous things," Kamara said. "I happened to be in Alabama in the summer and we were passing by Auburn, and my friends dad was like, 'you want to go to Auburn?' So we went, we got lucky and the gate was open and we went inside the stadium and got on the field for like ten minutes. Then some guy came and said, 'this is a once in a lifetime chance, I would have done it too, but you have to leave'. It was ironic, I thought about that when I got offered."

Kamara plans to return to Auburn soon, at the latest this summer.

  • 5 weeks later...

This kids got NO FEAR. He reminds me of Kenny Irons. He'll be one of the two backs to sign with Auburn this year.

I may be wrong but we have a lot of ground to make up and we are more than likely only going to take one rb in this class.
