Ahhhhhhhh Yes .......... Jim Fyffe. I personally would put Jim Fyffe on the plateau just above Larry Munson (I HATE Georgis but I did looovve to listen to Munson call a game) which is equal to the plateau where Buddy Rutledge resides. Probably very few of you even know who Buddy Rutledge is/was .... but I an sure Golf knows  :tease:

I agree completely. Mr. Fyffe would have to be placed a rung or two above Mr. Munson. Having grown up in GA and completely hating UGA I somehow developed a fondness for Larry Munson. Kinda the same deal as Lewis Grizzard I reckon. He was a real UGA homer but I loved to read his articles. They are all dearly missed as each one plyed a part of how I view football, especially football in the south!

I will always remember a game against Georgia Tech, I believe. Anyway, Bo broke one late in the game and it marked the first time I heard Jim call, "Bye, bye Bo." I can remember it like was 15 minutes ago. Great PBP and even better person. Yes, he is and will always be missed.

I remember Buddy. I think Buddy was bound to a wheel chair.

Yes, he was bound to a wheel chair. I remember the ushers having to assist him to the press box before the games. Also, if you remember, he was the sports anchor at the old WAPI TV affiliate in Birmingham.

Wasn't GT the Tillman! Tillman! Tillman! call a few years later? I think that call was against GT and not the '86 IB, but can't quite remember. Part of the reason I remember some of his calls from the 80's was an old AU highlight tape that was made in 1989, that had some of his best including when he called the '84 AU/FSU game and said something like, "and we are in a wild and wooly shoot-out here in Tallahassee tonight".

^^^^This^^^ and yes he was bound to a wheel chair.

I remember one time I was at work, (it was during the AU/FL game in '94) and I couldn't listen to the game.  Every time AU scored, I would be paged over the intercom to pick up the phone and when I did, my roommate would do his best Jim Fyffe impression..."TOUCHDOWN AUBURN!!!!"

Jim Fyffe was AUsome!

WDE!

The chills I would get listening to him call the game was electrifying...I miss that man so much..The basketball games were awesome too!!! "Peanut butter loaf of bread Jam Jam" or "Hello, Leeds, Alabama" hehe

I believe you're right, 83. That game against Tech was the game where JF went crazy with Tillman, Tillman, Tillman! Remember the call and I'm not certain on this but I believe it was a fourth down play from Jeff Birger to Tillman, who made a heck of a catch.

I remember playing golf with Jim at a charity event. I proudly brought along a new driver I had made several weeks before. On the first tee, I pulled it out of the bag, and got ready to hit. He promptly said in a loud voice, I thought that was a fishing rod you were going to hit the ball with. We all had a laugh and that's the way it was, playing a round of golf with Jim.

Actually, some of the freshman football playersahd to carry him up the stairs. That was before there were elavators in the stadium. The big difference between Buddy Rurledge and Jim Fyffe was that Jim was a real Auburn mang, through and through, whiloe Buddy Rutledge was not, he was just doing his job very well.
