Interesting UAT comittment

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/05/tide_lands_commitment_from_pen.html

Interesting because, according to rivals, he did not even have an offer from UAT. However, he did have offers from South Alabama, Alcorn State, TN State, Ark. State, Fl. Itnl.

Not saying this guy will not ultimately be all world, maybe  UAT saw something the others missed. However, normally you don't see those school on the same offer list with a UAT commit.

So, what if a bunch of guys  1 & 2 star guys who did not even have offers came out and verbally committed to a school. Schools are not allowed to comment on recruits. What would that do to the recruiting rankings? Would that make it look like a school pulled a lot of offers in Feb. when those guys went somewhere else?

Just something to think about on a slow Sat. afternoon in May while waiting on Tiger Walk to win the Preakness.

they'll stick with me,

Is this kid serious? What makes these kids actually think this after all that has gone on in West Alabama? Especially since there will undoubtedly be someone more talented *take* his spot when it comes time for NSD.

Yeah, and every time we get a commit from USA, ASU, FIU, etc. it's because we "can't compete with the best in recruiting". I'll bet they'll immediately be harping on how ye Lord Saban findeth things in players ye lesser men caneth not.

That looks strange to me as well.  Bama is listed with a lot of offers out to defensive tackles and it is a long time until NSD, so unless Saban gave him a signed note saying he really means it my advise to him would be to keep the recruiting lines open.

Does he have a younger brother? A best friend at the same school that is a UAT target? Is there someone they want at that high school? Does the HS school need 6 figure renovations? look at 2014 and 2015 classes and see if there is a link. Saban does no charity work when it comes to recruiting.

OK, I follow and thought of most of that myself, but WHY would they sign a kid nobody else wants just so they can do renovations to his HS?

Nick Saban knows there are no limits on the number of verbal commitments he can accept.  And he knows the worse than can happen to him is someone will question his ethics... and that really hurts him bad when they do that.  ;D

Last time the media got after him over this, Nick said the kid changed his mind (about not accepting a greyshirt).  Nick will lie his way out of it by claiming he was the one that was honest and ethical about the whole thing and it was his distractors that have the story wrong.  The media will let him get away with it and the bammers will defend him by lying like bammers about what happened.

That is part of the strangeness, according to rivals (unless they have updated it), Saban has not even given him an offer, much less a note saying he will honor it.

I think the first and second sentences in Supernova's post are the ones to focus on instead of the renovation part. Take for instance the example of Cyrus K. The only reason they gave his brother a scholly (JMO) is to get Cyrus. If the turds sign a kid from that HS that becomes a highly sought after athlete nationwide, then you may have your answer.

As I said, I followed all of Nova's post but that one sentence.

Also, I don't doubt that happens, and that may very well be the case here. However, I would use a different example than CK's brother. He is a legit D1 player and I think he may start for them next year.

Maybe the guy wanted to be pushed up to a 5* on 24/7's & Rival's rankings. SO he just mentioned that he committed to bama. In the end he can say that they pulled his offer and most would believe him.

This may very well be a case of 'don't pay attention to the star rankings'.  If I remember correctly, Marcel Dareus was a 3 star coming out of Huffman HS.  I'm sure the Bills didn't care what his HS recruiting ranking was.

CTT always did a good job coaching up our 3 and 4 star guys...let's see what the bammers can do with this one

Well, like CGC, he has a pretty good eye for talent. He must have seen something in the kid. It might be worth our coaches watching some film on him (if they haven't already).

That is pure gold!

I was joking about the renovations part....  ;D

CK's bro will not play and has no chance at starting. He is one of the lowest rated players still on the roster and has battled injuries if I am not mistaken. You dont have to put on the O&B glasses but removing the crimson glasses will help.

WOW, always amazed by bammer stupidity. All of a sudden stars don't count. I'm sorry I started reading comments on that site. I feel  dumber for having read the article much less the responces.

The kid may be good but somehow I doubt he will ever actually get an offer of any kind. If by some miricle he has, It will not be long before it's pulled and he's asked to greyshirt.

CKs older brother was rated a four star OT his senior year of high school. I would hardly call taking a four to get a five taking someone no one else wanted. He has had injury problems since arriving, but that has nothing to do with his initial recruitment.

I think YOU are the one wearing the crimson glasses if you think UAT recruiting is so GOOD and  they really did not want Arie (that is Bammer speak if I ever heard it) , they just signed him for his brother.

As someone said above, Arie Kouandjio Was a 4 star athlete out of HS and also had offers from UT, Notre Dame, USCw, and Miama. Rivals also had him the number 117 overall player in the nation and the 15th best tackle in the nation.

Certainly somebody has a problem looking at things objectively here.

May UAT is starting to drop their high standard. Either that or they ran out of money to offer another 4 or 5 star recruit. So while their printing out more cash, they went on ahead took this kid.

Well if they were paying the others and got Arie for free, they got a bargain.

Did you put that word in the sentence on purpose or by mistake?

No, the IF implies that I do not know for sure.

IF is because Nobody has yet produced any hard evidence to prove same (beyond that silly "where there is smoke their is fire cliche") and the only place I have heard that is on the Internet sites of rival fans (who are not always the most objective people when it comes to hated rival schools). Actually, they say on their sites they say we do that.

That said, IF is also because I do not not know no for sure that they are NOT paying players. Just because I can't prove they are not paying players, doesn't mean that they are not paying players.
