PokerJokerAU 0
Moving there soon and am wanting to know where I can rent a decent and safe apartment/house for a few months while my wife and I are looking at something to buy. Any info as to general areas all the way down to specific neighborhoods/apartment complexes would be appreciated!
telling tiger 156
Far east of town, like Trussville or Clay. South of town in the Vestavia, HWY 280, Inverness, HWY 119 or something in that area. The only issue with south of town is that the HWY 31 and 280 traffic is nuts. Rental houses are hard to find in the above areas. Apts are somewhat plentiful in those areas. I'm sure there are some more decent areas, but those are the areas I know since moving back here. Good luck.
ellitor 33,684
As much as the Prattville Lion in me can't stand them, Hoover is a great place.

South Mountain Brook - high end Vestavia - mid to high end Homewood - low, mid and high Hoover - low, mid and high Pelham - low, mid and high Helena - Low to mid end Alabaster - Low to mid end Chelsea - low to mid Inverness - mid to high Greystone - high end East Irondale - low to mid Trussville - low, mid and high end Clay - low to mid Leeds - low to mid Roebuck - low Center Point - low Pinson - low to mid Tarrant - low North Fultondale - low to mid Gardendale - low, mid and a little high end Morris / Kimberly - low to mid Forestdale - low Adamsville - low Graysville - low West McCalla - low, mid and some high Hueytown - low to mid Pleasant Grove - low to mid Everything else - low
ArmchairAthlete7 21
If I were you, I'd look in the area known as Cahaba Heights. It's behind the Summit shopping center and only minutes from I-65, I-20, and Highway 280. Homewood is awesome, but I think you get more for your money in Cahaba Heights. It's technically in Vestavia Hills if that helps.

If you can give us some idea about that, we can probably give you some more prod/cons of different locations.

I live in Cahaba Heights and love it but I work in Liberty Park so my commute is all surface streets. If we know the area you are working in then we can help some more. around4ever 4,139
I lived in Cahaba Heights for many years. It's not what it used to be but it is still a very nice area. Home prices are below normal Vestavia prices but nice homes, good shopping and restaurants. Commuting to downtown Birmingham can be a pain but no worse than other areas. Stripe 5
Try I-65 north or south somewhere else. Realistically I'll leave it to people who live there.
Stripe 5
I just read what I posted. I should really step away from the keys when I'm this doped up. I'm cynical when I'm high and In pain. Maybe I should go back and read my other posts from this evening.

I will be working at the airport...as an air traffic controller....would like to come from the north/east from what I have been told about traffic, unless someone has other insight. Trussville is looking like a great place right now.

Autigers71 0
I live in Gardendale and work downtown. It normally takes me 15 min to get to downtown and that is between 6:30 - 7:00 am and at 4:30 in the afternoon. Not sure if you are looking for any kind of night life, but the north part of town really has nothing. Not even a movie theater. I lived in Hoover for a few years and the only draw back was the south bound traffic in the evenings.

HardcoreAU79 0
If you are not going to be here long and no kids it opens a lot of things up. Working @ airport, there are a lot of condos on S. side close to UAB. A lot of condos just east of 20th St. S., generally the same area. Ought to be a buyer's market. I've lived all over southside and OTM long term. Homewood is my favorite for location but square ft for square ft. it is expensive. The Hollywood section of Homewood and Crestline communities of Mt. Brook and B'ham would also be worth a look. All of above reduce traffic significantly and are close in and stable areas. Good luck and welcome to B ham. Thanks for the welcome...have to do a stint of training in Oklahoma City first, though. Just got here about 2 hours ago with the wife, kid, and dogs in tow. I am looking hard at Trussville....to rent first so I can look in person at a home to buy (and be able to take my time) As far as night life goes...I could care less. I am still young (26) but with a wife and 17 month old baby all I really care about is having a Wal-Mart close by...and maybe a bowling alley
HardcoreAU79 0
Always good to have another Tiger in Birminigham. Trussville has a lot going for it. A "new" municipal school system with 3 - 4 yr old HS and a lot of $$ put into the other schools. Traffic can be rough if you use I 59 around the Mall . Ask old timers where the original Mall is . That is the old city common green, v. pretty and older houses around a large open green space. There are active youth sports programs, as to bowling, no clue. It's at the Pinnacle mall behind the Target. I've lived in Trussville since the Pinnacle was a driving range. Go Huskies. Class of 2004.

logan adams 333
Hoover is very nice. There are very nice neighborhoods such as; Greystone, The Preserve, Lake Crest, Lake Cyrus, Ross Bridge, etc. There are also many places up in Bluff Park (in Hoover), that are very nice.
