Wonder if ND has to be one of the four teams every year they're ranked in the top 50.

NO, of course not, they get an automatic bid regardless of their rankings.

Maybe I'm confused, but what is breaking about this? Did they announce details of the playoff selection process or structure?

Not so fast my friend. The Presidents can still screw this up next week.

No but it is huge that the Big 5 conference commissioners came to a consensus on a model.

I thought they agreed on a four team playoff back in April though. Actually I know they did...so maybe they made some progress as to ironing out details?

Rankings don't matter. So long as they beat two of the three service academies and Michigan State, they're in.

They never agreed til now. The commissioners were using the media to jockey for position.

Looking at their tough arse schedule this year i don't think so.

Ok, last time I post anything about it...but tell me how they just agreed to it when I just looked up an ESPN article that says this...

"The 11 FBS conference commissioners and Swarbrick agreed to move forward with a four-team playoff at an April meeting in Hollywood, Fla. They've spent much of the past two months negotiating the details of a playoff, which would replace the existing BCS structure in 2014. Under the current postseason format, the top two teams in the final BCS standings play in the BCS National Championship Game."

Sorry if I'm being difficult, but I must be missing something.

That was essentially agreeing on the idea but not specifically to the structure they agreed to today which is a 4 team seeded playoff.

I'm not positive this is right. I am watching some "special" about it on BSPNU. They are talking like this isn't a done deal. It seems Pac whatever wants a plus one. I think Big 10 commissioner wants the same thing. There is also still lots of debate on if it is a four team playoff then how do you decide who plays. Sounds like lots of work still left to do on this.

Ahh, ok...I think I catch your drift. Back in April there was still a chance  of it being 4 plus two wildcards...now they have agreed that it is only gonna be four teams. Thanks for putting up with me. One more question....

Just kidding

The Commissioners have agreed on most things. They will present all the ideas to the Presidents next Tuesday. The Presidents will make the final decision then or thereafter.

Awaiting details to see how this fixes the problem.

Personally, i think it will just be BCS version 1.3.2.12. Only real difference is the amount of teams involved.  I don't think they actually fix anything. Just more of the same.

But I'll wait for details to make my final judgment.

What I think is that at least under a 4 team system AU won't be left out again if we win the conference like in 2004.

And there are years that Auburn could get in as a one loss wildcard.

I just hope they don't do conference champions only. I also hope they don't do one per conference. If they do only let one team in per conference I think it should be the highest ranked team from the conference...not the conference champions. (See examples VT over Clemson and Stanford over Oregon)

Here's what schlabach and shatt just said..........

4 team playoff

will use a committee

will use current BCS bowls and rotate them

NCG will be played at a highest bid site

coming from those two means it will be a plus one played on highest seeded home field

CHICAGO -- BCS commissioners will recommend a seeded-four team playoff that will feature the "best four teams" as chosen by a selection committee, sources told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

The Presidential Oversight Committee ultimately must approve the playoff on Tuesday in Washington D.C.. The playoff will begin after the 2014 regular season.

Ok here is the official recommendation from the commissioners to the presidents ...

A 4 team seeded playoff with the "best 4 teams" chosen by a selection committee with stregth of schedule being a huge factor plus the semis being in the existing BCS bowls on a rotating basis and the final bid out each year.
