Miss State billboard an NCAA violation

I have a question. Isn't every billboard these schools put up"designed to solicit the enrollment of a prospective student-athlete?" Personally I think it's a pointless violation at best.

I guess its because it says "play" with the best, so it could be argued that it is more directly aimed at athletes--but come on...

Kinda stupid violation if you ask me. Any billboard that has a university tag is solisitation of athleats, Reguardless of what it says. Is this really any different that the Auburn billboards that were put up a few years ago? Although It's funny when other universities play follow the leader and get busted for it.

LOL they need all the help they can get...funny they have to celebrate the only west div. team they have beat in years, and ole miss is the worst team in the sec! " PLAY WITH THE BEST"

The embarrassment of having to put up signs to beg players to come there instead of ole miss is punishment enough.

It ain't exactly like they are beating down the doors to get into Ole Miss  . State does a whole _ _ _ _ of alot better than Oxford of late. I couldn't care less about billboards unless they blatantly say "we pay cash money for your signature on signing day", and the NCAA probably couldn't either. They just wanna make a few bucks off of the sissy slapping match that is MSU v Ole Miss, and say they are enforcing something.  :banghead:

And besides the NCAA violation, it is false advertising.

Well, to be fair, they do play in the SEC, so...

Seriously though, I can definitely get where this is a violation. The assistant AD for marketing straight up called it a recruiting tool in an interview; kinda hard to get past that...if you put up a billboard advertising your school as the best, I'm okay with that, even if it's done for recruiting purposes (provided that you aren't stupid enough to actually say it), but not a billboard enticing athletes to "come play with the best".

That was the whole point why it is embarrassing. They had to put up a sign to say they are better than Ole Miss.
