gc2525 17
Do we go after another QB since the Pike issue has surfaced?

TheSandman1345163025 0
It's a bit too late for this class, and I'd think we're gonna wait and see how Wallace adapts to the college game before thinking about taking two in the 2014 class (if we weren't already planning on doing so). NoALtiger 3,934
I don't think Zeke's situation affects the recruitment of another QB. I think the coaches are always looking for a good fit at QB and have a plan they stick with regardless. JMO.

Don't think it is too late, but I am sure the coaches know more about the situation with Pike than we do and I am sure that if there is a possiblity of Pike not returning then they will go after another for 2013. If Pike is returning then I think that will set up for going after 2 QBs for 2014. I truly hope that Pike comes back and goes on from this point to become a GREAT AUBURN QB!!! ellitor 33,684
There was a thread on this yesterday but I guess it was deleted. Sandman's post sums up the concesus on it though. Without knowing what is at the juco level all the quality qbs for this class are committed so barring flipping one of them I think it is more likely we take 2 in 2014 if we need to. The main problem here is that all of the known-quality quarterbacks have already committed. I'm not sure about the Rettig situation, but it looked like he was told we were only taking JJ in this class, which would be why he committed to LSU shortly after JJ committed to us (shortly after Bateman committed to Bama). I doubt we'd be able to get him to back off that commitment now, even if we tried.

This. We've told JJ that he is going to be the only QB in this class, and though the circumstances could cause a change and him understand and be okay with it, I just don't think that's the most fortuitous route for us to take. I think after Lefty works some magic with Kiehl this year (who I expect to have a Tebow like transition from his freshman to sophomore year...not that he'll win the Heisman, just that he's going to take his game to another level sooner rather than later), we will be able to go after and sign two elite QBs. That's not a bad point; Smith could probably be the wildcard here, because he'd give us an extra option without exactly recruiting another QB, considering that we like him at receiver and safety as well.
