Fulmer Cup 2011

Did anybody point out that Auburn won the 2011 Fulmer Cup last year?  When people say we're getting bad press at the moment, it's not a conspiracy.  It's because circumstances merit the attention.

I'm not saying something is wrong with the program, only that we have no grounds for whining.

I think what ticks most fans off (atleast me anyway), is a majority of the bad press Auburn recieved didn't have a damn thing to do with Auburn or was well beyond anyones control (i.e MISSISSIPPI STATE discussing money with Cecil and 2 former players being killed). Yes, Auburn had four players do something so incredibly stupid that they will likely have spent half their life in the pen when they get out. However, thats just a small drop in the bucket when thinking about all the #### that has been slung Auburn's way in the past 18 months or so.

I still shake my head about that armed robbery incident. It really doesn't get much uglier than that. And it came at a horrible time, right as the Cam crap was starting to dissipate.

Ummm...wtf kind of merit does the fulmer cup carry? Never heard of it and sounds far from a legit competition. Seems a little too heavily weighted in certain areas.

Cant believe yall haven't heard of the fulmer cup! It goes to the school with the most arrests/off the field incidents in a calendar year. I thought it was just an SEC thing, though. Georgia and FLA have had a stranglehold on it the past several years.

Why are you cluttering things up with facts and reason, DyeCamp? :P

Well with the ZP incident, I'm starting to get worried myself. These things are becoming more common place. I think somebody needs to get a hold of these players off field behavior because Auburn is looking worse with each added incident.

Does this mean we get to put another flag up at JHS? Or what about a few new statues?  :dunno:

You won't hear any whining from me.

When Auburn Univeristy student-athletes decide to act like they've got some sense and can steer clear of wrong-doing, there will be nothing for the mediots to write about.

I don't know what the hell needs to happen to get the attention of our players, both football and basketball.  It's frustrating as an alum to have so much "self-inflicted" crap brought on a program I love so much.   :banghead:

The Fulmer Cup is not the kind of award we want for sure. But hey, we earned it last year llike it or not. I think our staff is figuring out how to weed out the bad apples in the recruitning classes since last year.

IMO, weeding out some of the old staff is a first step at weeding out some of the bad-apple recruits that have made it to our campus.  :-X:-[

Just keep in mind that some schools do not have every little thing pointed out. Tuscaloosa let the officer go that arrested JPW for DUI.......you dont think arresting players is discouraged in some places? If we won the fulmer cup because of 1 incident that happened to involve 4 players (of whom only 1 even had a gun), I would say the SEC as whole did pretty well last year. This ZP thing has just blown up too big for what it is even worth.

The new staff is doing a pretty good job at recruiting good players - on and off the field.

Are you suggesting that Roof & Malzahn leaving were the first step in removing some of the less scrupulous recruits?

The Fulmer Cup does not exist. it started as a jab at UT because of all the problems they had but is now just used as a conveninet insult  mostly by by bama fans

It doesn't exist officially. There isn't a trophy handed out or anything. Your school just gets slapped with the title. It doesn't matter what you call it, it just means you've had a rough year off the field. I don't know who started it but people over here in GA use it all the time.

I've seen a ton of Arkansas fans use the term, a whole lot more than bama fans.  Could be because Arky has stayed steady in the top 5-10 in Fulmer Cup rankings though.

The fulmer cup is fun, but the formula is based on charges... The Felony 4 had a lot of charges, but it was still 4 players doing something stupid...   Alabama won in 2008, Auburn in 2011..

Currently Arkansas is leading because they had three players arrested for burglary and that is 6 arrest since March and does not include points for Petrino..  One with Alabama connections in Bobby Humphreys son which I just do not understand...
