Need some help arguing Auburn with other team fans.

There was one thread that had alot of various info showing how good we were over the years but I don't know where to start to find it.  Anyway I'm arguing with some guys that say we are relevant once every 5-10 years.  Could someone direct me to that post if anybody knows what post I'm talking about?  If not any info that would help me out would be appreciated.  Thanks

Yeah, well, Peyton Manning had a lot of success from 94-97, just never could beat Spurrier. Then in 98 they won the inaugural BCS Championship. Plus in 04, the only two teams they lost to were us and Notre Dame.

LOL, relevant once every 5 to 10 years? Really? We've been undefeated three times in the last two decades. We've won at least 9 games 17 of the past 30 years, and at least 10 games during 9 of those seasons. We also have 6 SEC Championships over that 30 year period...

...Dude, I'm just trying to help a brother out. It doesn't matter if the opposing fans won't ever learn, having such facts to respond to them with will shut them up for a little bit, at least, and will help him not feel so ignorant about his team. What's your deal?

1983 national champs in 6 selectors opinion(3 of those major),1993 national champs in 4 selectors opinions, 2004 champs in 3 selectors, and 2010 BCS outright champs. Plus you can share we have more wins against them in last 30 years, against 8,9,and 10 win teams of there's, than they have against our 8,9,and 10 win teams. They are 0-4 when we have 10  or more wins going into game. That is to refute the "they only beat us when we are down" mantra they love to shout. It is always good to come back at them with facts. A great one to share is what is the only team in the state of Alabama football history to go an entire season without giving up a single point. The answer is the 1914 Auburn Tigers. As a matter of fact, of the MNC we could claim, the 1993 team was the first one to allow 100 or more points for the entire season. If you take 1910,13,14,57,58,83 all combined would no more than 100 points. Just some info to be used. More where that came from.

Actually I don't think so.  First they won't believe you and of course the bammers, dawgs, corndogs, gators, etc have an excuse for everything.  Point out that AU won six straight and the true bammer will quickly say that it's not relevant because that was before  and besides bama was on probation and Schuler was a bad coach, etc.    The problem is that they truly believe that BS and will go to their grave defending that argument and the 14 NCs their team has won.

I defer to my earlier post.  Why waste the time arguing with them unless you are just looking to pull their chain (or enjoy having yours pulled by these dedicated knuckleheads?) 

It's good for AU fans to recognize what the school has accomplished over the years but a waste of time trying to make most non-AU people appreciate it.

AND, we beat them twice that year...both times away from JHS.  Pretty impressive if I do say so myself.

Which was a top class....now besides cam...who else came out that class? Getting to my point auburn has put to together some top classes as of late but that hasn't shown on the field. Chizik a good recruiter but his coaching is suspect to me. Unless he coaching some players up this year and with the same players from last year, I see two to three years for their maturation and possibly beating bama. Bottom line anybody can recruit.... but can they coach.after this season I wouldn't be surprised if one of d linemen yall got flipped to bama.

Tell him that not only was Cam in that class, but also Michael Dyer, Corey Lemonier, and LaDarious (sp?) Owens, who he will hear a lot of this year.

Blaze.....so now that you know how these idiots think.....why do you waste time trying to convert them?  It's like the people that listen to Pondscum and then come crying on AE about his crap.  I wonder if they have a streak of masochism? 

Better to spend your time on good AU blogs...chat with fellow Tigers, learn more about the outstanding young kids who will be on the team this season, etc, etc.  Your blood pressure will go down and you will enjoy discussions with  some funny and knowledgable AU fans.....and have a happier life.  It's all pretty simple.

Oh I'm not trying to covert him or anybody.  Like I said it's a non sports board that had a football thread.  We were all just talking about our teams recruiting and then dude came in and said something like us, fsu, and texas get good recruits but don't do anything with them.  So of course I had to defend my school and it went from there.  It hasn't gotten personal or anything like that but I'm just wanting to put him in his place.  But you're right I spend majority of my time on this board and another.

I'd agree we have been a good program over the last 20-30 years and nationally relevant (i.e., "great") every 5-10 years. 6 SEC titles in 30 years = relevant once every 5 years, which is fine by me. We are a great University that is good at football.

You make good points. What I do not understand is the use of the "relevant" as a synonym with winning championships. Auburn is relevant whether they win a championship or not. Theres not a team in the league that does not respect Auburn football. And blaze, dont know if you're still around but ALL bamrs honestly believe they'll never lose another game. In fact, they all believe they've never really gotten beat ever before either....sure, they've been screwed, blued, tattoed, "conspirinated" against, set up, bad called , cheated and rooked but in their minds the've never been actually beaten by a better team. So consider the source and just laugh at them..that pisses 'em off worse than anything

I think it all depends on your definition of relevant. I don't think you have to be an undefeated national champion with a Heisman Trophy winning QB every year to be considered relevant. As much as we laid an egg in a few games last year, I considered us relevant still. We had a 4-4 record in the hardest division in the hardest conference in the country. We also decided the outcome of the East by going into South Carolina and upsetting them when they were undefeated. Not to bash on fsu again (ok i actually enjoy it  ) but I consider unrelevant someone like them. Loaded in talent, plays in a WEAK WEAK conference, yet goes 8-4ish every year and does nothing of relevance on a national scale. Even in 2009 when we lost 5 games, we took the eventual national champion 60 minutes and almost beat them. I am not the one to believe in "moral victories" but I consider that pretty dang relevant at least. Done with my rant now.

Wow!  What amazes me is how clearly this chart shows the strength of the SEC West, top to bottom, versus the SEC East (or LEast), which over that 20 year period was truly a 3 team race.  I am not taking anythign away from UF, as I beleive they would still be the best team in the SEC over the past 20 years regardless of which division they were in, but not by as large of a spread.  UAT has to hate the fact that Auburn is the winningest team in the SEC West (or Best) over the past 20 years.
