1st Full Team Summer Work Out

I was very pleased with the energy and intensity. The offense and defense both seem to be grasping their assignments, which I believe is not only a testament to their dedication to study but also a great compliment to the teaching ability of the new staff on both sides of the ball.

Full team drills O vs. D along with individuals and skeleton drills.

Match ups in the skeletons were very competitive.

Nice to see guys stepping up and taking leadership roles that quite frankly I didn't see last year. I think that was mostly because of youth but the boys are growing up and there is a sense of ownership that is refreshing. I am convinced they know they're better than anyone outside thinks they are.

Conditioning also seems to have gone very well in the off season. Many are just simply bigger and stronger  looking and when standing on the field with them their size and especially the over-all team speed is impressive.

The difference from last season at this time to now is stark by comparison.

I am fired up!!  :wareagle:

I think you're absolutely right about that one, and I think the coaches realize that this team could surprise a BUNCH of people. If you pay attention, the coaches haven't come out and said anything along those lines, but there are subtle hints that this could end up being another special season.

We all know that it is only a matter of when and not if with this team and the talent that is there.  Talent and depth increases competition and dedication to the craft.  Can't wait for Game Day!!!!!  WDE

Glad to hear that...especially the part about THEM KNOWING they are better. BELIEF and HOPE in one's self and those around you is the key to success. BELIEF and HOPE are the best of things in this world. Without them the defeat comes from within. Without them there is no hope, much less belief, that you will succeed.

Awesome to hear, Sir. I'm really starting to get excited about the upcoming season. Looking back, last years team was able to win 8 games without the above said strong leadership, and playing an unbelievable schedule (five 10 win teams with 4 of those on the road). Now flip the schedule, add a year of seasoning, guys start devoloping into leadership roles, and you have the ingredients for a very dangerous team. Forget all this down the road jabber, I believe we are more than capable of contending this year!

Just wonderin but you mentioning leadership has piqued my curiosity abit. Do you get the feel that some of the younger guys (i.e sophs and true juniors) are starting to feel lke this is "their team" and that the onus is on them to work hard to be able take this team to its full potential? While I'm sure the small group of seniors are going to be pushing these guys hard since its their last go around. I really hope that the younger ones understand that they got lay it on the line because when they are seniors, they are going to want the same from their teammates. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, do you feel these "younger" group of guys are ready to step up and take charge of this team even in the face of adversity?

I really do believe the teams that are special are the ones that play for each other. We heard Fairley and Cam say several times after the BCS Title game, "that this was for the seniors." Same with the '04 team. You had a group of guys who all playing for each other and that logo on the side of their helmet. They had chemistry, comradery, and group of young men who were leaders that demanded respect and when it wasn't given to them they took it. I really hope this "younger" group of guys develop these traits very soon, if they haven't already. Cause imo, its the only thing that can hold them back. It sure won't be due to a lack of talent or coaching. War Eagle!

Much appreciated, Robin. Any chance you could clue us in on who's made some strides, both mentally and physically?

I've been hearing some GREAT things about the team. Our offense will be something to watch, and I haven't seen defensive players want it this bad in a long time. Get ready to be impressed!
