AuburnNTexas 7,302
Auburn is having one of its best recruiting years ever especially on the defensive side of the board. But because we have signed two of the best kickers in the nation and because we will probably only sign 20-22 players our ranking this year may not be quite as stellar as what we are becoming accustomed to. Due to bias of rankings of kickers we have Two 2 Stars. That hurts the team rankings and yet two top notch kickers impact on the field can't be over looked. Time and again Auburn has proved the value of great kickers. With a great Punter and the special team and defensive team we are putting together we have the chance to pin another team deep in their own end of the field and change field position where we would have the opportunity to score touchdowns or use the other stellar kicker to get three points. Combine low stars because we have selected two of the best kickers in the Nation, along with lower numbers and a large number of 3 and 4 star players on the edge of another star and we will have a GREEEEAAAAT Class. This will be the type of class to put us over the top and yet I doubt when all is said done that this class will barely make the top ten if that. Great job coaches rankings can be deceiving. stealthyfan 124
Stars are opinions. Results mean much more than stars . . .
Stripe 5
Of course it is, your looking at someone's biased opinion. Reguardless it's all subjective. thats why I don't get too spun up about * ratings. I do get excited when we fill needs. I also get excited when I see tape of these young men dominating at the HS level. but hold my reserve until they sign in Feb. AUIE 81 0
We haven't "signed" anyone yet. All we have are verbal commitments. Don't get ahead of yourself. War Eagle!!
IronMan70 3,321
Good post OP. Not counting kickers, both Scout and Rivals have AU at 8 players with a 3*. Without mentioning any names so players excluded won't also be identified, I think at least 4 players from the group will get their 4th * before NSD. ArmchairAthlete7 21
Well most sites only count your highest 20 players so if we sign 22+ then the kickers won't be added in any way.

Some truth to this, but the other side of the coin is that the higher the rankings of the players, the more of a chance that they will rise to the top. Sure there are a few bust, but with all of the camps and recruiting evaluations going on these days, most recruiting sites are pretty close as to being right, than they are at being wrong. One thing I will say however, is that a high rated 4 star and a 5 star do not have that much separating them. Could be competition, coaching or both. As long as you are filling your needs with top rated recruits, that's the main thing. If all you are attempting to do is fill your roster with star ratings, you will not be balanced. Balance is better than 5 star recruits that are not filling your position needs. AU is in great shape. This coaching staff is recruiting needs, not just stars (though they are actually doing both). ellitor 33,684
Well most sites only count your highest 20 players so if we sign 22+ then the kickers won't be added in any way. Rivals is the only site that counts on 20 signees. Scout uses 25 and 247 uses all signees with less weight given to a recruit as you move down the list.
