Auburn football and behavioral issues

Well, by now you’ve heard the news. I know this is shocking, but another Auburn player is in the news for less than becoming behavior.

According to Mike Farrell of Rivals.com, Carl Lawson, an Auburn defensive end commitment from Alpharetta, Georgia was sent home from Nike’s elite camp, “The Opening,” for what coaches are referring to as “disrespectful behavior.”

How bad do you have to act to get sent home from a camp making money off the exposure of you being there?

As one media member tweeted: “War Damn Trouble.”

Now, if you’re like me, I was absolutely stunned to hear of a player linked to Auburn football acting, apparently, like a unbecoming thug. It’s so unlike that program to have players around their program like that.

I almost said that with a straight face.

The fact is, this is becoming the norm, and if you’re an Auburn fan, at what point do you begin questioning the leadership down in Auburn?

But, but, ITK, he’s not a player yet…he’s a prospect! I can hear you out there. But why is your coach attracting players with questionable track records to the program? Anyone surprised from last summer’s twitter barrage and past behavioral issues that Zeke Pike is currently in a fog?

Every team is made up of teenagers, and all teenagers by nature act stupid. But why so many Zeke Pike stories? Why so many Eric Smiths? Why so many Carl Lawsons? Why the Cam Newton story (which STILL has more questions to it than answers) and Nick Fairleys and all the late hits? Why the Michael Dyer unrest and transfer, and the handgun? And though not a player, what about Gus fleeing for a half-million dollar a year pay cut?

Why four current players trading their jerseys for jailtime over an absolutely stupid crime?

Then you have the horrible, involving the shooting at the pool involving current and former Auburn football players.

There is too much smoke in the Lee County air to deny somewhere under there, is a fire.

And folks, this is just off the top of my head. Simply put, there is A LOT of sludge oozing currently around the Auburn athletic program, and I’m just curious as to why.

One thing is for sure: Gene Chizik, if he truly is in control, isn’t getting his message across. But I think we all know the truth on that front. And if you missed it, here it is:

Programs like Auburn are not like programs like ‘Bama. Alabama, when standing on its own two feet, doesn’t have to gamble on questionable riff-raff “that might pan out.” They don’t have to hire towel waiving thugs to lead their team.

Historically, when Alabama is at full strength…and arguably they are as strong now as the 1960′s and 1970′s…Auburn can’t keep up.

There is but one way for Auburn to best Alabama, and that is to hope, pray and scheme that they’ll get themselves into turmoil, or better yet, probation. That literally is their only hope.

Because when ‘Bama continues to stock their cupboards with top choice talent year in and year out, focused on the goal of excellence, Auburn’s gambles lead to young men that apparently don’t play well with others.

Leadership…true leadership…leads to what you’re seeing these days in Tuscaloosa. Desperation and a charade of leadership is what you’re reading about from Auburn. And with that, you can only expect more “War Damn Trouble.” One just has to wonder how long until the Auburn Fambly has enough?

No worries, my job is to make sure stuff ends up where it should be. Normally, I wouldn't leave anything from the Crapstone up, but being that it's about Auburn (and is certainly an inciting piece written by a delusional fan), I think it serves okay to fire us up. Hell, maybe someone will put it on the bulletin board in the AD. I know that'd fire me up as a player.

Oh WOW......I'm stunned.  Some dummy over in Tuscaloosa wrote a piece of fiction slamming AU?    What's surrpising about that and why was it necessary to post the entire piece of tripe on this board. 

I'm tempted to print out that screen so I can use the printed page to line my bird cage...but that would just be helping waste another hapless tree.

Now if someone at crapstone wrote a nice piece thanking the AU coaches and athletes for helping with tornado recovery....and did so without some underhanded compliment.....that would be news....and worthy of being posted on this board.

Anyway, I found this part amusing while skimming every few sentences for any coherent thoughts.

Last time both programs were at full strength was the 1980's. And AU dominated the 80's, won 4 SEC titles, a NC (1983), and 4 in a row over bama with being 2 fluke plays away from 8 in a row (Bo with the wrong play in 1984 and Van Tiffen in 1985). In the 90's AU got hit with severe probation and last decade bama got severe probation. So in the past 30 years, there has been one 10 year stretch where neither team was subject to sanctions. And AU dominated.

You can't reason with these people. Don't try and throw facts back at them countering their argument, they won't listen or care. They'll counter with a "14 lol Rawl Tahd", which marks the end of the argument, kinda like using Hitler in an argument (You know who else felt superior to a group of people? Hitler. Argument over).

In the end just ignore it. If they have to publish articles like this to make themselves feel better, it's not going to make things better for you by getting upset about it, just leave it alone. Bringing attention to it is what they want, it indicates what they have to say matters to us. Don't give them that satisfaction.

we are talking about a POS site that even after being around for what 4-5 years still cant attract more than 100 facebook followers!? My 10 year old sons youth football league has 5 times as many!  We are talking about a site that only has a hand full of posters that spend most of their time sharing teabagging tips. CSR is by far the worse "sports" site on the internet. It is pure garbage and a decent fan from any one of bama's rival teams should NEVER post a link to it.  Dont help "ITK" make his trailer park rent!!!

In fear of getting flamed, I have to admit, I'm a little concerned about our players.  We do seem to have some players who have off-the-field issues that raise some questions in my mind.  But then, I stop and look at our coaching staff.  We have a head coach in Gene Chizik that is not afraid to send a Michael Dyer packing, because he can't let go of his "above the law" attitude.  We have a coach that is not worried that the almighty Gus Malzahn chooses to leave for less money, because Chizik knows there are plenty of offensive gurus waiting to get the chance to utilize Auburn's talent.  Our coach isn't afraid to send a player home for disciplinary issues, even though he is the 3rd string QB on an already shaky QB roster, with no starter named, and the possiblity of transfer by one of them if not named the starter.  Coach Chizik deals with these issues the way all coaches SHOULD, but very few of them actually do. 

Are we to honestly believe that these same issues don't happen in turdtown?  Of course they do.  The difference is that over there, it's all covered up because everyone is afraid of Saban.  The media won't print it, lest they be banned from any future story involving the crimpson turds. 

And what about Athens?  Knoxvile?  Gainesville?  Ann Arbor?  L.A?  When kids are exposed to greatness, and treated like gods, they begin to think they are invincible!  This stuff happens everywhere.  Unfortunately, there just happens to be a million reporters watching Auburn like a hawk, waiting to break the next big scandal that isn't there. Lack of creativity breeds stupidity, and that is what this article represents.

I could not agree more. I mean CGC has gone out of his way to lead by example. I mean he owns a condo in Birmingham for parents of children that are being treated at Children's Hospital, so they'll have a real place to stay. He has taken a ton of our players on mission trips, which is awesome for people who are Christian or any other religion to be honest. Being in a third world country will really put things in perspective for you. Especially at that age. Not to mention all the obvious things like how he has acted swiftly and justly on every behavioral issue we've had. I mean let's be honest, most of these high school kids being recruited to a great program like AU are gonna put on their respectful face that their mama taught them. But once they are down on campus away from mama, the kids want to be adventurous and some of them do it in the wrong ways. It's college. Stuff like Pike getting drunk underage, is just bound to happen. It's just that we aren't in TTown where the cops see the ID says there favorite football recruits name and say "have a good night son".
