The funny thing is there is no point in UGA signing the 30+ kids they can sign this year because of Auburn and Bammer getting the quality kids away from them. They should just rename the state of Georgia East Alabama because Auburn and Bammer are owning them.

Clemson, Tennessee, Vandy, UF and USCe are sharing in the spoils.

The diverse nature of Georgia's population makes it unrealistic for them to "build a fence around the state".  Too many rival fans in places of influence.

always found it strange how many AU and bammer fans live in Georgia...You just dont see that here.

Well you kind of have to attract people to come to the state in order to get different fan bases represented. Alabama doesn't have a lot of industry and jobs that make people want to relocate. You have Birmingham and Huntsville but they just can't compare to Atlanta when it comes to jobs.

From someone who has lived throughout Georgia for the last 17 or so years.  Georgia has very diverse CFB fanbase.  Georgia and GT of course but in North Georgia you have a huge Tennnesse fanbase.  In south Georgia you have lots of UF and FSU fans.  Northeast Georgia you have alot of Clemson fans as Clemson is only about 30 or so miles from the Georgia line.  Near Augusta and Savannah area you have alot of South Carolina fans.  In the Greater Atlanta area we have alot of Auburn fans.  Surprisingly you see that ugly non Braves A on Pickup trucks in alot of small towns in Georgia.

Yeah, spent 1.5 years in S. GA. and moved back to AL recently.  Much more diverse over there, even in the rural southern part of the state.  USCe, FSU, UF, Clemson, etc etc were common sites on tags, stickers, hats, etc.  Like said, I hope UGA takes a huge class this year as it'll hurt them later.

Meanwhile, UGA looking east and getting kids from SC and NC which are not that far away.  They have been strong in the Charlotte area for the past several years.  Don't think they are suffering too much....their next incoming class is ranked ahead of AU at this point.

Which means nothing until Feb.  If you haven't noticed, they were confident on the Foster/Matthews package.  What if Matthews flips and bring Shaq with him?  Their class will fall apart.

They always seem to be late closers as well, though to me. Richt appears to get in on kids late in the process, hit them with an offer and get their commitment. I remember that happening to a couple of kids in the past two recruiting cycles. I can't remember who they were off the top of my head, but I remember thinking this though last cycle.

You know they're going to be putting the full court on Trey this weekend and sell him that Mike position.

Georgia has recruited well over the years and will this year as well.  For some reason they have been slow to move up their recruiting schedule as others have done, but they have started doing that recently.  And they recruit outside the state pretty well. I almost want to say they look outside the state first and try to land those biggies, thinking they can come back in-state and pick who they want.

It is a population thing and a GA Hope scholly thing.

1. The metro area of Atlanta has more people alone living in it that live in the entire state of AL.

2. The Hope scholly avail to students in GA have made it very hard to get into UGA/Tech. If good students do not get in these schools, they increasingly look towards Auburn and Bama as very nice options, and not that far away.

3. Atlanta has a huge number of Alums for both schools living there, because it is the largest city in the south and still close to both schools. (Jobs)

Agreed...Rivals has them #4 for 2013 and even if they lose some, they will find others.  I think some folks are over-stating the situation with them.  Fortunately they recruit better than they play most years.

You couldn't tell that by how they have owned us over the last 5 or 6 years.  What are we, 1-5 against them recently?

UGA was picked to win it all a couple of years ago and did like we did in that same situation in 2003.  I remember telling one of UGA buddies that had his chest all swelled up about it prior to the season to "enjoy it now because it might not be so much fun once the season starts".  When you are ranked #1 preseason, it puts a bulls-eye on you and your team best have their heads on straight and their chin straps on tight.

All true dpw...I was just trying to soft-pedal our lack of success against them lately by saying "most years" but in fact they have out-recruited and outplayed us way more than I like.  Perhaps things will get balanced out the next couple years.

I would not say they out recruited us. They just have not had to deal with Tubs imept recruiting the way we did Tubs last 2 years.

I hope so.  I live among them and they don't let me forget they have been getting the best of us lately... all in good fun though. Most of the folks I am around handle our rivalry's the right way.

He's had chance after chance to leave there and come back home, but he turns us down every time there's an opening on our staff.

With his shady tactics are you sure we have offered him recently?

I will be just fine if we never hire anyone from thUGA's current staff.  Inmates run the asylum in Athens, and apparently the coaching staff is fine with that.  Not a problem we want/need on the Plains.
