And ESPN has our DL above mid-SEC

http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/46030/ranking-the-secs-defensive-lines#comments

“…but their defensive line should be one of the most improved units in the league if everyone returns healthy in the fall.”

If this keeps up, it'll get harder to surprise folks

Tony Barnhart and company (CSS Talking Football) have us at #19 preseason.

Have to admit I don't know those guys (actually, I'm afraid that this site is my primary source).

I'd been drifting into an expectation that we'd generally fall somewhere between mid20s and "also receiving votes" (and the "real" preseason polls may well still put us there?). I was beginning to think that the FoxSports poll (which is counting down from 30) would put us in the latter.

Tony is a long time columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Three other men on the show with him, 1 gator, 1 dawg(more or less) and one Michigan man. All longtime writers/broadcasters and sometimes sane, sometimes not. They do cover the SEC more than many other programs, with a touch of ACC thrown in. It's ok, but only ok, imo :dunno:

Many Thanx

'course my expectations (hopes?) are that our DL camps out in Clemson's backfield, disrupts their (admittedly competent) skill players, and starts our season-long rise in the polls.

This is actually a fair write-up. I still think we do better than they think we will. But they're not acting like we're terrible.

I agree they are not the best or worst just ok....however IMO if they

chop that 1 dawg fellow and replace him someone like Stan White     it would take that show up a few notches.  :)

I think we should embrace being ranked higher than some thought we would. We should actually be mad we aren't higher. We should always strive to start each year on top. I know Auburn has traditionally done well when they are the underdog but these are new times. We have a great coaching staff that can coach and recruit with the best of them. Its time to start expecting the accolades of the big dogs but without the bammer arrogance.

I think it is a terrible article.

Why does every article about Auburn have to bring up bammer? Do articles written on them do the same?

Calling our recruiting "solid" is a joke. Our recruiting has been top 5 since CGC got here.

Results will show up in 2 months.

Everybody better get ready for their shut up juice.

That's funny right there...almost as funny as Kristen Saban...maybe she shoulda found some of that shut up juice...just sayin'.

Shut up juice doesn't work on Sabans. That arrogance goes right to the bone.

It'll be fun to watch him spittin' mad and berating his players on his own sidelines again in this year's IB.

If there's any justice in this world, somebody will do something about his shenanigans on the recruiting front. He's been getting away with murder for far too long.

All saban needs to do is ask greg mcelroy and his dancing family how they thought it tasted in 2010.

Mark my words, in a few months......

1. Clempson is gonna be glad the series is over.

2. missy state is gonna realize they cant beat us, this year or any other.

3. arky is gonna wonder why they fired petrino.

4. aaron murray is gonna cry like the little girl he always has been.

5 and bammer is going to be reminded why we own their field.

I am sick of the pessimistic attitude that pervades our fan base and allows us to swallow the bitter pill of "be happy with 8 wins Auburn" articles that are written EVERY year at this time.

I am done and going to bed.

I think it is barely fair, just another outsider looking in who has no idea what Auburn really has. The real kicker for me was the statment "it stinks to get Georgia from the east" like they were in our east rotation. Doesn't this guy AT LEAST know that we play UGA every year?  I agree with what he said about our passing game needing to step up, but then all he does is focus on what happened last year instead of the fact that, oh I don't know,  we are adding two 6' 4" 205+ lb. receivers. Like others have said, I just don't buy into any of these media guys predictions since they refuse to take a good long look at AU. Anyone who says that a possible top 25 team isn't going to have a championship (Conference or National) year needs to look back at history and learn to not make statements like that.

Ditto

Counting Mr. Ray?

AUshrink, that was very insightful.  I am with you on that one!

Thanks.

I am tired of the "realistic logic" of our fanbase.

I EXPECT to win every game next year with the talent, coaching, and schedule we have.

If and when we lose, I am not gonna shout "fire the coaches" for two reasons.

1. Ted Roof is already gone.

2. That would be delusional to act that way. That is how bammer acts.

The last 3 times Auburn went undefeated, the mountain we were facing (with the talent and coaching we had) looked a lot more dangerous than the upcoming season. We have no "giant" on our schedule. We have almost all the games at home. We have more talent across the board than we have had in 25 years. We have players with a chip on their shoulders (remember consecutive 5 win seasons in 1991? Remember the nallsminger debacle of 2003? Now do you see the beatdowns we took in 2011? And finally we have the defensive coach to put it into action.

We are going to destroy some teams this year and win all if not almost all of our games.

8-9 wins is for idiots like doug layton and scott moore.

2012 Auburn is about to smack that smirk off everyones face.

I believe AU is going to shock some experts this year and be strong out of the gate. We will win it all this year? Odds say it is tuff hill to climb, but certainly in the realm of possible. Winning it all though requires not only skill, talent, coaching, 100% team unity, but also a little luck, and no major injuries. Tuff to say the least.

Probably three counting Melvin Ray!

This guy will never play...he's no good!

Couldn't get on the field with a Segway and a catcher's mitt?

Actually I was counting Mr. Ray in my 2. Jaquay Williams being the other one. The funny thing is, we have other receivers that are extremely well qualified. Emory Blake (6' 2")anyone? Sammie Coates and Ricardo Louis are both receiving praise (both 6' 2") as well as Jaylon Denson (6' 3"). Add in slot receivers Trovon Reed, Quan Bray, and the likes to the mix and you can see why, to me, WR will be one of AU's greatest strengths this season.

I believe that most publications prob follow the lead of others and play around with their rankings a little in order to make it look like they did it themselves. I feel like we will be in most top 20 pre polls this season. We have the makings.
