redshirting..

I don't think so.

The sky is the limit for Sigler from what we were hearing around bowl practice and heading into spring.

Craig is a proven commodity against the run and a special teams nightmare. The new scheme could very well benefit Craig the same way it has Dee Ford and Whitaker.

I'd like to think that we will see both of them play extensively against CU on Sept. 1.

Craig Sanders have been a constant contributor on defense and special teams.  I don't see him redshirting.  Sigler played in every game last season, and is a perfect fit for CBV's penetrating style of defense.

I don't see either one of these guys redshirting.

Is Sigler expected to be a combo defensive lineman?  I know Coach Pelton moved him around a little bit in bowl practice.  With him being at 300+ lbs it seems he will he's true A and B gap lineman.

Anything is possible but I don't think either one of

those players would redshirt...unless an injury is

the reason.

No, it aint gonna happen.

And there's really no reason for it to. The way we're recruiting, we'll have great players all over the field regardless, so if a player can contribute, let him.

I wouldn't imagine Sanders would want to redshirt- plus, there is no reason. I think he's gonna have a great season personally. There should be ample playing time for all the DL players in the playing rotation.

So who all are we thinking will be redshirting (aside from unexpected injury cases)? Pike?

Well, I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say that all of the incoming freshmen except for Kozan, Miller, Louis, McKinzy, maybe Robinson, and maybe Williams. Williams will likely play primarily on special teams if he doesn't redshirt.

To answer the question about the player you asked about, yes, I would say it's a foregone conclusion that Pike will redshirt except in the case of an unexpected injury. That's not because of any of his transgressions, either; we have our starter and we have a backup, so there's not much point in burning his redshirt year. Zeke is a great athlete, but he was never going to overtake Kiehl or Clint.

I would think that being asked to redshirt after playing a year or two (unless for injury rehab) would be very bad for a player mentally and could harm his motivation.

Some guys were pressed into playing before they were ready..but were needed because we were short-handed. If another year of development would help a couple years down the road it could be useful....maybe for Sigler but don't think so for Sanders.  IMO, redshirting is not a bad thing...and in fact, for the long term development of a player, the extra year can be a major help.

I would add Holsey, Parks and maybe Diamond and Young to your list. I didn't think Miller would be big enough to contribute this year.

I'm going off the reports I heard about him doing so well in spring training, that's all. Holsey and Parks are both at positions where we are already quite deep, though I could certainly see Parks being a fourth option at tight end if we do in fact start utilizing a two tight end set more frequently. Holsey, however, as awesome a player as he is going to be for us, has to compete with 12 DBs who are ahead of him.

Thanks Red, good discussion. IMO Jovon Robinson would be a good candidate to redshirt given that we already have Mason and O-Mac returning, as well as Grant and Blakely essentially as incoming players.

The thought there is that none of our returning backs are big backs, more of the speed variety. Robinson is a bruiser, so he brings something different to the table. Honestly, I would prefer that he redshirt and save a year, especially since we have an outstanding fullback paving the way now and Mason, Grant, and Blakely have all gotten to where they are balanced rather than purely speed backs, but it is at least a possibility that the coaches decide Jovon adds enough to the mix to burn his redshirt. :dunno:

Yeah I guess I have faith in our current backs to be able to run powerfully. But the big thing is that we'll have the option of using Robinson or not. I'd love to save a year for him too, but realistically (and fortunately), we should remain deep at the RB position either way with the way we've always recruited that position.

All this talk has me thinking of a play where Lutz motions to the left and Robinson and able to run through the highway plowed by Prosch and Lutz. Almost makes me misty.  :'(  :yay:

Or we just line up in the old Power I and have Lutzie in the backfield to begin with. Has the added advantage of being able to use play action and send Lutz into the flat without having drawn so much attention by going into motion.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think it might be more likely that Blake Burgess would be the extra blocker in the backfield if we ran the Power I. :dunno:
