My understanding is that this year's SEC schedule is a one-year arrangement--meaning in 2013 we won't necessarily just flip the home/away with each team. Does anyone know when the SEC is supposed to decide and release the schedule for 2013?

No time table but the only changes are Arky-Mizzou and TAMU-SC become permanent Rivals. Everything else will very likely be status quo.

Auburn home conference opponents for 2013 will be Bammer, Miss St., Ole Miss, and very likely Mizzou or Tennessee.

Mizzou because we have to play Mizzou at some point and it looks like the SEC is doing Mizzou and TAMU's rotation alphabetically with Mizzou playing Bammer first and TAMU playing Florida first. Since Mizzou has Arky permanently on the schedule starting in 2013 we are up next for Mizzou if it is done alphabetically. Something else interesting happens if my theory is correct. UGA would avoid Bammer, LSU, and Arky yet again if it is alphabetical because UGA would be next up for TAMU. Tennessee would be the other possibility for Auburn in 2013 because the are the East team we have gone the longest with out playing.

Road Conference opponents for 2013 will be Arky, LSU, TAMU, and UGA.

I would not be surprised to see a nine game conference schedule in 2013.

I would. The SEC is so tough as it is the ADs and Slive want to avoid the 9 game conference schedule

They avoided the 9 game conference schedule this year with a 14 team conference, but I don't think they like the way the schedule works out.  Basically, when you increase the number of teams in the conference you need to increase the number of conference games unless you want some important fundamentals of conference play to change. With the 6-1-1 format, six of your seven non-divisional opponents might as well be in a different conference as far as playing them goes... and that suxs.

Yeah it does suck. But I'd rather play teams from the East once every 6 years (and every 12 years for a complete home & home) than play an extra conference game--which I why I was against adding Mizzou and TAMU in the first place but it was inevitable.

But adding another conference games takes away $2-$6 million a year in bowl revenue plus it creates a more unbalanced schedule as far as comparing tams to see who goes to the SEC Champ. Game.

Add that 9th SEC game and it probably diminishes the odds of seeing some good quality non-conference games.  The SEC teams still need at least seven home games to finance the programs....which means playing fewer teams that demand home and home arrangements.

Some of the major schools....Bama, LSU, AU and maybe a few others can play the big non-conference games in remote sites like Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City or wherever without a follow-up game...but 10 SEC quality games in a season is going to be tough on the players.... and on the team records.

To add to the previous comments, a nine game conference schedule means that every other year each team would play five conference games away and only four at home.  This could impact the end results depending on who your fifth away game would be every other year.

And a nine game conference schedule means that few SEC teams would play any decent non-conference game.

Could we schedule Tennessee, Florida, USCe, Missouri, etc in years when they are not on our SEC schedule?

That's an interesting thought. I don't know how TV contracts would enter into it, but I'd think you could and just schedule those as non-conf games.

Nobody would want to play an extra non conference conference game.  It is tough enough as it is.

Yeah, this year there would likely be no Auburn-Clemson, Alabama-Michigan, etc. I bet some schools would maintain their non-conference rivalry games even with a 9-game conference schedule (like Clemson-USCe, Georgia-G Tech, etc.).

I don't know about you but I would not mind playing Kentucky every year as a non conference game when they are not on the conference schedule.  ;)

But would KY want to play us every year as a non conference game?

I would add Florida-TAMU and Washington-LSU to the highlighted list. 2 Wide Open Os versus 2 great Ds
