I was just thinking....

I started thinking back to the 09 IB just now, and I remembered what the AU broadcast team said after the game. "Auburn has given a signal that we are here and here to stay, beware you've just awakened a sleeping giant!"I think this statement truly has come to fit Auburn. As people want to constantly disrespect us our coaches and players are working their tails off to become champions once again, and I think recruits are starting to see that there are many great things to come in Auburn's future. People may try to knock us down, but that is because of their genuine fear of AU. My dad once said great programs may get knocked down, but they don't stay down long. From the posts that AUQBDAD makes I can tell that this team is coming back with a force that might scare some people once the season starts. I'm expecting some great things this year, and I'm starting to have some feelings that this is going to be a special year! WDE to all my brothers in the AU Family

Nice post; I agree. That their come from behind victory didn't demoralize us, even sparked the home crowd to drown out bammer's classless victory cheer with our own declaration of how great it is to be an Auburn Tiger no matter what, served notice that we aren't going anywhere. I'm letting them get their shots in, because it really doesn't bother me, and it bothers them that it doesn't bother me. It bothered them in 09 when I just smiled and kept going, and then we went out and signed arguably the best class in the country (especially with regard to filling needs)...more than one of the Bama fans I worked with at the time expressed how surprised they were that Auburn didn't just shrink away into oblivion.

That last part sounds like typical bama logic.

Oh, it was. Didn't take them long to figure out that they could fire shots at me all they wanted, but they'd better not actually come at me. I was working in the frame shop, and another Auburn fan (who was pregnant at the time and wouldn't be at the store much longer) and I had talked a little about AU. I think she was leery of me saying I was an Auburn fan just to get on her good side or whatever (very attractive girl, both when pregnant and not, so undoubtedly guys have tried most everything on her), but then one of the biggest bammers there came back and said something to her, so I piped up. That's when he started in on all the national championship baloney, and the look on his face when I didn't miss a beat and started explaining how absurd it was to claim some of their "national championships" was absolutely priceless.

The AU girl started laughing hysterically, because it was pretty obvious that he'd used the tactic to great success in the past, and he started blathering on explaining to her that he already knew about all that I was saying, trying to save face. It was pretty hysterical.

After I moved to Georgia, I came back to the store to see my old frame shop manager while I was back in town, and of course this was during our 2010 run. That same bammer saw me, stopped, and made some comment about how Cam was our entire team. I just smiled at him with that same old look in my eyes and asked about the long touchdown runs by OMac, the bruising efficiency of Dyer, the abject domination of Fairley...his face turned sour and he was uttering some kind of comeback that I didn't really hear as he walked back to the stock room to get on with his job.

Frankly red, you should be ashamed of yourself. ;) It's not like its hard or anything to shut a bammer down. I mean for the most part they're all ignorant as fans simply regurgitating the same ole sound bites we've all heard ad nauseum. Shutting them down, while quite fun, shouldn't be viewed as anything more challenging than shooting fish in a barrell.

Well, not exactly. I quit that job and moved to Georgia in May following the 09 season, so the back and forth with those guys ended. From Auburn's side, yeah, it kept going, but I didn't have to put up with them crying about it.

I'll never forget the 2009 team: the determination, the grit, the willpower. Although not as talented as some of the other teams in the conference, that team fought like true Auburn men every single game.

That team built the foundation for the success we've had the past 2 years and for the years to come.
