I knew this would be funny, had to share with everyone. We are slated for the Gator Bowl. Might as well not even play our games this year and get ready for our Gator Bowl match up against of all schools... Penn St.

Why even bring up this rag? They are trying to sell papers not be accurate. They can sell more papers to Alabama, Georgia and LSU fans by dismissing Auburn than they ever will to Auburn fans.

They may have a bias but this is not a reflection of it. Most people outside the Auburn family think we will be around 6th in the conference and based on last year's performance that is a fair opinion to have whether we like it or not.

As already noted, this is all about selling preseason mags.  Interesting that they have our opening opponent Clemson at #15 in their preseason rankings but have them going to (drumroll please) the Russell Athletic Bowl to play USF...  isn't there a disconnect here?

They correctly note in their Clemson write-up that they have to rebuild both lines and they could struggle until the new lines gel  http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/clemson-tigers-2012-team-predictions but whoever wrote the analysis thinks that last year's game was played at Auburn which speaks to the depth of their knowledge and research upon which their analysis is based.

It is always fun to review the preseason predictions of these magazines about 3-4 games into the season.

^This - the preseason analyst's have nothing to go on but what they saw last season.  And, if we are honest with ourselves, even though "we exceeded expectations", what we all saw last season wasn't too pretty from an execution standpoint.

AU will get tons of respect this year when we take advantage of our favorable schedule, and put all that talent, experience, and depth to work and beat the crap out of our opponents every week.  Play dominating football on TV on Saturday's and make these pundits eat their words.  WDE!!

Athlon HATES AU for some reason....they always have us the lowest, no matter what you're ranking.

Yes my only thing is how do you expect a team to not be any better than the year before when the schedule is easier, the players are a year older, and we really only lost one key guy that was creating locker room problems anyways? The Gator Bowl is a little less prestigious than the Chick-fila bowl right? I don't care either way what Athlon thinks, it is their opinion and as long as they aren't slandering Auburn (which clearly is impossible in bowl game projections) they can do whatever they want. I am still not sold on either USC or LSU in the natty though.

not trying to sound like a moose head or be ugly but how can we use last year as any indication of this years performance?  Especially given the fact we have new coordinators and new schemes.  I mean look at 2009 to 2010...we went from 8-5 to an undefeated national championship season.  Thats not to say we will be world beaters this year but at this point I think we have to trust the coaches and be a bit optimistic that we will defintely do better than last year.

The Gator bowl isnt a bad bowl.  Its a January 1st game.  That being said im surprised they put us that high.  Auburn never gets any love from anybody.  All of their love is reserved for Alabama, and LSU.  That doesn't bother me though.  I like being the underdog, and upsetting folks.  Cause we will be causing some major upsets this year.  WDE!!!!! :wareagle:

The sad fact is because we were Blown out 4 times and beaten going away late once last season we could be 8-4 playing those same teams again with 4 tight losses and still be very much improved.

Gator Bowl wouldn't be bad IMO. I do think we will have a better season than that though. It is Athlon though. I stopped reading their rag quite a few year's ago. I am more of a Lindys guy myself. They aren't always kind to us either though.

While I do agree with your statement allow me to play devils advocate here...for those of us who follow the x's and o's closely losing those 4 same games this year with a closer score would show improvement, however, to the normal fan they look at it as no improvement at all.  The only thing they see is an 8-4 record.  For the regular fan they would say winning 9 games or more is an improvement over last year.  We just really have to wait and see what happens because its very difficult to speculate on what we may or may not do but we do it anyway because thats what we do.  I personally think we will win 9 or 10 games.  I think we have an advantage over Clemson and Miss State because they wont really have any game film to watch.  I feel like we will be 3-0 going into the LSU game.  That game is really a winnable game for us because we play them early plus they are breaking in a new QB.  The two games that worry me the most is Arkansas and Vandy.  Arkansas because they are always a pain and Vandy because they are getting much better and have the capability to whip anyone.  Who knows but it will be an interesing year for sure.

Steele has us in the Music City Bowl against, of all teams, UVA.  Quite a disconnect.

Now even I will admit that is Biased.

All I say is, if we really end up slated to play Penn State, I hope we boycott the game.

Would much rather watch us stomp them and run up the score.  PSU has managed to climb over Bama as my most hated team.

Blah. Yeah, the Gator Bowl is a good one, but because of where that puts us in the pecking order, I can't agree with it at all. Still, like several have pointed out, that's just the way the outside world sees us...which doesn't bother me right now, because it'll just make it that much more shocking when we smack Clemson down in the Dome.

So based on where the turds finished, should they be picked to win it all? I think not with their losses of players.

It is a baseline which is why most people have them in the preseason top 4.

E, Why do you attempt to bring logic and reason into so many AU discussions? Just agree that anyone who ranks us outside of the top 2 in the country is an idiot, write WDE and leave it alone! :P

Can Pedophile Secrets University even make a bowl game this year? Putting off the field issues aside (if you possibly can), they lose nearly their entire offensive line and nearly their entire defensive backfield. Not to mention that every team they play will be out for blood against them because of how despicable they've become. Even if they do win six games, the Gator Bowl and the Insight Bowl have the 4th and 5th (not necessarily respective) picks. They'd likely go to the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl.  But that program is so out of control right now that they'll be hard pressed to play 13 games this year. By the way...notice the similarities?
