Serious question about "special" "expectations"

When Auburn plays Lsu,

Do you think the players would rather have 87k fans in JH that believe this team is "special" and believe they should win every game?

Do you think they want fans with lower "expectations" and is waiting for next year?

I think they would be thrilled to have 87,000 Auburn fans who we be content with a "close" loss where we show progress and improvement onthe way to another 8-5 season. Just so we do not beat lsu, bammer, or georgia and make any media members angry with us getting to uppity!

That is one heck of a defeatist attitude right there!

My Life is my God,my family, and others. I enjoy all things Auburn and other things. I respect Education and Learning and temper my affections when it comes to sports. Maybe i am splitting hairs here but I come to Auburn games because I am an Auburn fan ,not because i depend on what 18-22 year old young men do on a field to make my life special. Win or lose i give them my all while there. Win or lose I am an Auburn fan when i leave the stadium. True Auburn fans feel as i do i think. We are looking for the best they can give us out on that field. If it is their best, then i am happy...But most of all they are in Auburn for an Education. I support them with my money for that reason.

They want 87,451 family members in there, all of who think that victory is not only possible, nothing less is demanded or expected. They want us to cheer whether things are going good or bad(LSU 1994), and for us to realize no matter what LSU does, they will leave there with a loss(UAT in 2010) on the way back to Baton Rouge!!!! But Clemson is first. They are next!! And nothing they, or any other team we face this year, can do to stop the storm that is coming their way. We are Crouching Tigers lying in the weeds to devour ower opposition, especially those that come to "The Loveliest Village On The Plains." War Eagle!!!!

This is my team.  This is the family.  I wake up on Saturday, read the Weegs "Happy Football Day" post and believe that we will win no matter who we are playing.  I believe we can win every game this year.  We didn't win it all in 2010 because we had more 5-star recruits than anyone else.  We won it all because we had some really tough leaders who refused to let us lose.  I believe we will see some leaders like that emerge this year.  Will we beat LSU?  HELL YES!!!

Auburn is more than football. It is more than sports, more than you, more than me, more than AUSportTalk, more than AUQBDad, more than Auburn Eagle, more than even every single one of the players and coaches combined. We all make up Auburn, every one of us, and all those who have come before us are part of it too. I go into every game honestly believing we can win. I was laughed out of the Montgomery Advertiser building for daring to suggest that it was possible for Auburn to beat Alabama in 08. I ALWAYS believe in my team. It NEVER quits, win, lose, whatever.

But simply believing that the team is going to win isn't enough, because when it becomes painfully obvious that the team is going to lose, you give up. I gave up in 1994, when LSU was pounding my beloved Tigers into the ground and I was begging my father to not make me keep watching. It hurt too much. To this day, I thank God that he chose that day to teach me a lesson. NEVER give up. NEVER stop believing...not in the win, but in the team.

They want 87,000 fans there believing they will win, yes, but more than that, they want 87,000 fans who are going to be there to support them no matter what. We all talk about the impact of the 09 Iron Bowl, when we were still singing their praises even after the loss. They didn't lose again for more than a year.

Then at the beginning of last season, we quit on them. They didn't quit. They kept fighting and overcame seemingly insurmountable odds at the end of the game. But you think they didn't hear about the crowd reaction? And lo and behold, what did we hear out of the UGA players after they'd started whipping us? They quit. And why not? We'd already shown them that we gave up if the game seemed out of reach.

So no, believing that we will win is not enough. I guess maybe that's the point I was trying to get through in my reply on the "Special" thread. Believing that we will win is a great thing, it's something we should all keep in mind...but NO MATTER WHAT, we have to support them. THAT is our job.

I always believ we can win. But its football. If the wind blows just right and the sun is in the wrong  place and the ball bounces wrong and a guy in a zebra costume just don't like us that Saturday North Alabama school of Nursing can beat us.

Its football.

I do not beleive that most of them really care what the fans are thinking but they appreciate them cheering hard and believing that they can win the game.

Good posts everybody. I think it is important for our fans to maintain the high level of support we give our players each and every game for the entire game. When things go bad on the field, looking up and seeing your own fans abandon you does nothing but make things worse. They need to know that no matter what happens, the 87,000+ fans in that stadium not only believe in them, but stand behind them. We owe them that, they put hard work in each and every day and lay their bodies and hearts on the line. No fan is perfect, I wasn't last year. I can proudly say that I didn't abandon my team during Utah St, but I did leave early during the Iron Bowl. It had more to do with all the bammer tools that were in the student section and almost getting in 10 fights, but I shouldn't have left my team. It won't happen this year or ever again because I know that win or lose, I would still rather be an Auburn man than anything else.

I think they want the fans support regardless of who we play. And they get that. But as one said earlier, being a fan is one thing, but putting a sport above God, family, etc. is another.

If your boss would "like" for you to complete a project but it is still ok with him/her if you don't finish it, are you going to put in extra effort?  If he/she "EXPECTS" it to get done, you are not going to leave until the job is complete.  Of course the players care what fans expect.  And they care what the coaches expect.  I promise you, this coaching staff and this team expects to win every time they run out of the tunnel.  Go back and listen to Coach Chizik's pregame talk before the WV game...UNFINISHED BUSINESS.  "Don't let these people down."  They expect to be great just like we expect them to be great.  WAR EAGLE!!!

When the Auburn team plays LSU they will want...... the no fan leaving, fire breathing, red meat eating, real loud screaming, fanatical Aubies with that War Eagle feeling, packing Jordan- Hare to help in dealing, the Auburn team's revenge against LSU.

No one is happy with "content" . If your content with a loss why even show up? Support the team win or lose, don't give up on them and they will not give up on you. These guys do care what we think on Saturday, As long as we are in the stands and cheering them on they will continue to play hard. When they see droves of people leaving in the 3rd or beginning of the 4th quarter, and they do see it, it affects their will and their drive to win. I know if I saw thousands of people that were supposed to be at an event supporting me get up and leave right in the middle of it, I wouldn't be very happy with them, and my attitude of being able to perform to the best of my abilities would surely be effected.

"Content" Such a "whatever” attitude you have there. I’m never content with a loss. I might be pleased with the way our guys played during the loss, but never "Content" with a loss.

Now if your still in the stands screaming in the 4th and even though we may be losing there is a chance to come back and win. Stranger things have happened. You’re supposed to be there to support your team win or lose. Not to be "Content" with whatever happens, but to help rally the troops and to keep them pumped to peak performance.

"Content" is something I expect from my wife when I finally stop talking about football and She gives that sigh of relief. It’s not something I expect from watching my team play a game. No one should ever be content with a loss.

When it comes to Auburn Football I’m only "Content" when our boys raise the crystal football in the air in celebration after winning the MNCG. Of course I have to stop doing my own celebration dance long enough to feel that satisfaction and calm after the storm.

I also feel "Content" after making bammers walk away from me in defeat after one of their stupid comments that’s as dumb as they are.

But I’m never "Content" with a loss.

come on guys. This is a football discussion.

Please leave god, religion, and pollitics out of it. If I want religious discussion I will go to focus on the family boards or somthing.

Not trying to be a jerk, but this is a football discussion. You posts of God and family, before football just seems a little holyer than thou attitude. It's not needed. I think we all know where our priorities should be and thats not even part of the topic of discussion.

In my experience the people who "expect" to win every game and think their team should go undefeated or win the conference every year are the SAME people who are screaming "Fire the coach",  "Play the back-up qb", "Fire the AD", "This team sucks."

If you can have high expectations without going negative when reality strikes than go ahead.  But it bothers me when a team meets or exceeds all the EXPERT, NON-FAN, expectations and a segment of the fan base is trashing the coaches and players because your team lost to a top 5 team.

IMO fans need to look at the direction a program is going  starting with recruiting.  Auburn is going in the right direction and recruiting is going in the right direction.  The only thing negative, loud mouth fans are going to do is mess it up.

Very nice 35.  But fan expectations will never be exact. they will always be high, because that s what you want your program to shoot for, Everyone wants to be the best. If they didn't we wouldn't play the game.

The word "special" is getting worn out this off-season.

I am sorry but I get sick of these posts.... People ask "What do you think Auburn's record will be this year?" and then get upset when someone says 9-3 or 8-5 because they don't "believe" in the team. If someone pays the money needed to go to a game, pays the gas money and gives up a whole Saturday to come come support 18-22 yr old kids who play a GAME, then I think the players are happy. I played sports in high school and I honestly could care less if the fans actually thought we were gonna win I just wanted them to make a lot of noise and support the team. That's the job of a fan

I think LSU is a better team than Auburn right now but come gametime I am gonna be in Jordan-Hare screaming my head off and supporting my team and you won't be able to convince me otherwise on that day that we won't win. I think that is what they want
