Redshirts for DL

I know this may sound ridiculous at first, but would we redshirt Lawson, Liner, and Adams (assuming we get him)?

If Lemonier and Ford don't go to the NFL this year, I don't see why we would burn a year thos of their eligibility...we have tons of depth and talent at DL.

2013

SR: Lemonier (DE), Sanders (DE), Ford (DE), Eguae (DE), Carter (DT), Whitaker (DT)

JR: Blackson (DT), Wright (DT), Delaine (DE), Niles (DT), Owens (DE), Sigler (DT/DE),

SO: Harrell (DE), Nero (DT), President (DE)

FR: Lawson (DE), Liner (DT), Bower (DE), Adams (DT)

2014

SR: Blackson (DT), Wright (DT), Delaine (DE), Niles (DT), Owens (DE), Sigler (DT/DE),

JR: Harrell (DE), Nero (DT), President (DE),

RS/FR or So: Lawson (DE), Liner (DT), Bower (DE), Adams (DT)

It is going to be a friggin war for the starting positions in 2014.

Based only on your assumption that Ford and Lemonier stay ( I think they go NFL), we would be very deep at DE so maybe yes on the RS for Lawson and Bower. The only caveat is that Lawson might be so good he "could" make that hard but it would be nice to take advantage of all the DE depth now and push him back 1 year. At DT we don't have quite as much depth as we do at DE so I would get Liner and Adams the experience the same way Wright and Blackson were able to get in the games last year.

I have never seen so many defensive lineman in my life!!!!!!! I freakin love it!

Experienced, talented, and deep = success

We will have four 5 star DL on that roster, 12 upper classmen, and 19 DL on the roster....that is a GREAT problem

And the day is coming when we will have that same problem with our LBs!!!!!! :wareagle:

Problem with redshirting top-tier talent is that if they turn out to be as good as you hope, they only play for you 2 years before they're eligible for the NFL.

There will be some that show up out of shape or slow or whatever. They will be redshirted. If a guy like Adams shows up ready to play - he'll ease in like Gabe Wright last year.

This staff has played young guys every year in important situations so that they get some experience. Then when they have to step up because of injury well into the season it's not totally new - Wright last year.

By definition, a five star is supposed to make immediate impact.  While that doesn't mean starting, it means getting in the rotation early and often.  I can't see either Lawson, Liner, or Adams taking a redshirt.

I thought Ford was a SR?

We will be subbing lines like in hockey.  Pelton will scream out "SHIFT", and we'll rotate in another wave of dominance.  Poor OL they will be beat and bleeding at the end of our games.

I like the optimism but Adams has not committed yet.

He applied for and received a medical RS because he was injured early last season.

Exactly.  In '10, Sanders, Whitaker and Lemonier played a LOT vs Miss State on the road and that game was close all the way.   IIRC, Lemonier and Whitaker were in goal-line defense and Lemonier knocked the ball out of Relf's hands on his sneak for a TD but he had already broken the plane.  CGC and CTR were masterful in developing the talented trFR and rsFr early in the season because they knew we would need them when we got into November - I have no doubt that this was a big factor in winning the NC.

if they can contribute to winning and can be better than the guy in front of them, then they will play.  period.  regardless of age/class.  nowadays, the best players will play ... particularly when you have depth.

Why would Dee Ford go to the NFL? With health concerns, the question marks regarding one year of production, not to mention the amount of DE talent in the draft this coming year, he hardly projects as a first rounder under the assumption he has an all American caliber year. He needs two years of healthy superstar production to leave in the draft at a position that would be greater than staying at auburn. Too many question marks for only one year

Most have said Ford needs to play 2yrs.  The Liner, Lawson, and Foster kids will play often and early.  They will find a way to get them on the field.

Yeah, unless you're Cam Newton you usually need to make a little noise your sophomore year to set you up to make the jump to the NFL after your junior season IMO
