Recruiting Ranking Predictions

I'd like to pin this, and also add the other major services in similar formatting. I figure Ellitor probably has a good handle on the formulas for the others. I can update this as we receive new commitments, but I thought it would be interesting to see where we would finish with our anticipated remaining prospects. This assumes we take 22 and don't lose any current commits.

**UPDATED 7/19 to include commitment of Jordan Wilkins. Also added Jayron Kearse to list of potentials.

That's amazing for USC to be at over 2600 points with only 15 commits.

The ratings are completely different now. They would be about 2300 under the old format. Auburn would also have 400 fewer points under the old format.

I can do Scout and The Ringer but I can't do 247 because I can't do negative exponents.

Yeah, I agree.  I'm way too optimistic to work with negative exponents.

I'll guess we are looking at the number 3/4 class and far and away the number 1 defensive class on NSD. I doubt we sign any players rated less than a 4 star (except maybe Luper) from here on out. Right now, the top 4 all have at least 20 and rivals only scores the top 20. If we just got 4 four stars right now, we would basically be at number 3 with LSU, even with our two kickers giving us practically no points. 6 four stars and we are about even with Michigan at number 2.

Considering we do have 2 kickers, it is more like we are at 14 commits as far as the rankings go. I would say only USC has a better class according to rankings than us, but our defensive class is #1. Michigan and LSU, then Texas or OSU are currently rounding out the top 5 quality wise.

Also, I will predict two of our plethora of 5.7 three star guys will get a bump to a 5.8 adding 60 points (and I think that is conservative) and Sills will bump to at least a 5.7 minimum.

My 2 cents.

Strikes me as a futile task trying to rank recruiting classes. ...and a waste of time worrying whether we are ranked 1st, 5th 7th or whatever.  For the top dozen or so teams, there is probably little overall difference in talent when all is said an done...and when we see which kids actually show up on campus.

We pretty much know that some of the rating servcies will wait until the big (favored) dogs get their classes nailed down and then magically, some of their 4*s suddenly become 5* without doing anything more than waking up in the morning...and of course some of the 4*s who happen to commit with the wrong teams see their ratings drop to 3*.

Rest assured, coaches like Chiz pay little attention to the * ratings as long as they get the guys they need to build their team depth and overall talent.

I hear ya, and as politely as it can be said, there are many who frequent only the recruiting board and find great interest in this topic. If it's not for you, cool, it's not for everyone. But let's just let the others enjoy the info.

You forgot OJ Howard

I don't think it is realistic to expect a commitment from OJ at this point, if we end up with a signing day surprise, all the better.

I just figured out the 247 site and I have Good news. If Joedan Wilkins commits to Auburn tomorrow then Auburn will make a HUGE leapfrog jump to 4th in the rankings. Auburn will have a score of 747.44 and be .01 ahead of the Fighting Lou Holtz's!  :we:

Love having fewer commits and a higher ranking than LSU.

If we somehow pulled Howard and Adams that would 5 five stars..... This class is definitely gonna be a top 5. I think USC and Michigan will have the consensus top 2 classes but I think we can push for that 3rd spot. In the end though we are again loading up on talent and this class seems to be loaded up with leaders

What no one seems to mention is the fact that we have arguably the top 2 kickers in the country committed to us as well.  And somehow, that drops our avg star rating.  Anyway, it'd be interesting to see what our ratings would look like without the kickers averaged in.

Have never understood how being the #1 ranked kicker/punter gets you a 2-star rating.  Kicking is a lot more difficult than it looks, otherwise, every team would have an automatic kicker.  These guys get hosed, which translates to teams giving them scholly's getting hosed.

Because all that matters is what happens on the field.

Last time I checked, our all time scoring leader, and the guy who won the National Championship, was a kicker. They deserve FAR more respect in the rankings.

Just did a quick check & we'd be 4th on 247 in avg rating, without kickers.  USC, Texas, & Ohio St. would be ranked ahead of us.  OSU has a kicker commit as well.  Personally, I look at avg rating year-in & out to consider how the classes stack up.  This year's class is a...

"E", question for you.  How many can the turds sign this year?  They're at 17 currently, with a host of four and five stars close to committing.  Seems they would still be in the hunt for a top 3.
