"Chizik: Expect Physical Preseason for Tigers", Scout FREE READ

Reading about CGC having a long talk with Eric Mack recently made me pause and think about just how much he has had to deal with recently. I wonder if the emotional trauma of being at the shooting was even worse than his injury. Having never experienced anything quite like that at 20 yrs old, I can only imagine that their heads were spinning.

I'm sure it makes a person sit back and see just how precious life really is.  Would be an eye-opening experience for anyone involved.

What all has Zeke Pike got to do back home before he can come back to Auburn?

I wonder the same -

If he were at AU:

* He'd be Yox'ed to puking stage everyday

* He'd be in class and working on his education

* He'd be working tirelessly in the playbook and his job

* He'd be under the scrutiny and watchful eyes of his coaches

What things can he do from home?

It is very likely that info will be kept in house.

For the past 3 years, I do not think we have had an especially physical preseason. Especially in 2009. Chizik stated many times he had to be careful about how much full speed scrimmaging we did and the amount of contact and full speed tackling to the ground. This was purely due to a tremendous lack of depth. We had 4 linebackers on scholarship total and a super thin defensive line. We simply could not afford any preseason injuries. Chizik erred on the side of caution which was really a no-brainer.

We finally have developed an appreciable level of depth to do some more banging in preseason.  :wareagle:

Of course everyone wants to know the details but this is why I love Coach Chizik. It is between him and the player. He doesn't berate in public like the shrimp across the state. CGC has more class in his little finger where the midget has none whatsoever. They are polar opposites. To me, Saban and bama are a match made in heaven. Thank God we have Gene Chizik!!! Nuff said   WDE!!!

Great article with alot of info. I can only imagine what it has been like for Eric Mack and CGC and all the other players the past few weeks. I agree with Chiz I think the start of fall practice coming up is going to be really good for them as a team to work together to move past this and work toward being a better football team and better men. Im excited to see what this team does this year. Especially with the new coordinators

I am assuming one thing is to not post on his twitter account, he hasn't posted since being sent home, but he is following Reuben so he is still tracking all of his teammates and future teammates.  Of course, his parents could have made a point of this as well.

This is what Chizik said in that article in the OP:

"Asked about whether freshman quarterback Zeke Pike would be back on campus for the start of preseason practice, Chizik said that is still to be determined.

“In Zeke’s case we have a certain standard and expectation for our guys. If they’re not living up to that they’re not going to be here. That’s why I sent him home. If he comes back it’s because he’s done everything we asked him to do. He’s got a lot to do.

“Right now we’ll make that decision as we go down the road. As we sit here today he’s at home and will continue to be there until I feel like it’s the right thing to do to bring him back. He’s got to do a good amount of things to get back here.”

Asked if he could be back for the start of practice in August, Chizik said, “We’ll continue to evaluate that. I don’t want to answer that because we’ve still got some assessments to do. We’re in communication.”"

It sure reads like he has specific tasks to perform but I can't figure out what they would be other than stay out of trouble, get his head together about being on Auburn's team and what that requires of him, and make apologies/amends.

Have the feeling if he comes back It's going to be a while.  If he comes back at all. he may choose the Dyer path and transfer to another school or to a D2/3 school. Hope this kids pulls his head out and gets back soon.

I like Zeke, I just wish he could convert all that bad behavior into motivation for to doing well on the field and be a leader for his team. If he is not back for fall camp that will be a huge set-back for Zeke and will almost automatically make him a red-shirt. When does classes start? See if he is here for classes, should be an indicator as well.

I think he will make it back on the team. I don't know if its as a RS on the scout team or as the 3rd string QB but I think he makes it. He is a good kid, he just needs to mature and I think this lesson he is being taught will go a long way in doing that.

Yep.

That's very important! I always thought the first game was a breeze, after the hell of preseason practice. That hasn't been the case since CGC has gotten here. I don't expect the slow start this year. Clempson is in line for an a$$ whooping!!!

He wasn't suspended or dismissed, he was sent home during the summer session during 'voluntary' workouts after he got a public intoxication charge.  I will be a little shocked if he doesn't come back... but what do I know?

Anybody else worry that DE/OT clashes may damage somebody before we ever see Clemson?

Sent home to settle his butt down, learn a lesson, and face momma's nagging for a month or two.  If his momma is ANYTHING like mine, I'd be chomping at the bit to get back to AU and get back in Coach's good graces.

Nope - this team can't go into preseason afraid of contact.  September is a tough one, they need to be battle tested and ready to rock.

I don't think there was ever really any question about whether he would redshirt or not, barring injury, but I have my doubts about him making it back. I hope he does, because he has huge talent that, combined with tutelage from Loeffler, could turn into huge production on the field, but something about the way he keeps getting into trouble even after being reprimanded (suspended from his high school team twice as a senior, talked to very sternly after issues before spring practice, now the arrest) makes me wonder if he's anywhere near the point where he's ready to buckle down.

Agreed, but thank goodness for that "depth" thing. Might be some collisions?
