Best Defensive Performance

Just curious what are the best single-game defensive performances by an Auburn team that you've ever seen?

I'm young (only 20) but the best ones I can think of are the Iron Bowl where we sacked Croyle like 12 times, and of course the great defensive struggle of a game against LSU where I think we won 7-3 or something (2004 I believe)

1994 LSU game was pretty good.  We were down 23-9 (I think) in the 4th quarter before a barrage of pick 6's by our amazing secondary.  We were ahead of them 30-26 at the end of the game, and they were in scoring distance.  Chris Shelling then got the 5th interception of the game to seal the victory.  I think we had 4 interceptions in the 4th quarter, with 3 being returned for TDs.

1994 LSU interception game.  I was 8 and it was the second game I had been to since my Dad passed away.  Before the 4th quarter, my Mom asked me if I wanted to leave or stick it out.  I chose to stick it out (thankfully).  I sat there dreading the ride back home and hearing it from my Mom's bammer family.  Then the surreal began.  4 int's later and I was hoarse, smiling, and felt like I had witnessed a miracle.  I couldn't help but feel like my Dad would have been proud of Auburn and proud of me for staying when it didn't look good.  Anyway that game will always be special to me.  BTW, the first game after his passing was the 93 FLA game.  My mom sure knew how to pick them.

Just looked it up - 6 ints, 2 fumble recoveries.  30 points in the game with no offensive touchdowns.

Totally forgot about that 1994 LSU interception game. Even though I was only 2 at the time I have seen the game replayed at least twice and the comeback was awesome.

Also I was gonna put the 2010 Iron Bowl but I went for full games

Not gonna say it was one of the best ones ever, but just the other day they were replaying last years AU VS USC game and i have to say that was a pretty impressive showing from that defense. :wareagle:

2004 v. Tennessee in Kville.  Forced 6 turnovers (Rosegreen had 1 fumble recovery and 4 interceptions himself).  Held them to 10 points (the TD coming in the 4th when we were up 31-3).  Pretty impressive beating on the road against a top 10 team.

The 1994 interception game was certainly the most remarkable defensive performance. Was it the best? Depends on how you define best. The defense absolutely won the game by itself and was heroic. Our db's were dehydrated and cramping badly (Shelling in particular), but fought through it for the most amazing performance I've ever seen. I say amazing since it was unreal and our offense did NOTHING to help at all. Still, LSU moved the ball a lot that game and even after our D scored on the 2nd int return for a td, they immediately gave up a long drive for an LSU fg to re-take the lead.

My favorite defensive performace ever was the 2006 AU/LSU game. Never seen so many hard hits in a single game in my life. And the run defense was beyond great, it was practically epic. Everytime LSU handed off, I cheered because they went backwards.

Honorable mention goes to the 1989 AU/UF game as well. Held them to 1 score and crushed their offense and Emmit Smith the entire night. That was the game Emmit was crying on the sideline at the end. And UF was 6-1 coming into that game.

Holding Oregons O to 19 pts!

:wedance:

That was nowhere close to a good defensive performance, they gave up 449 yards of offense. Yes the defense slowed their run game but they got torched in the air. 2005 Iron Bowl was a pretty great defensive performance, everybody and their brother sacked Croyle.

That LSU/AUB game was something else. I remember going out to eat at some restaurant and my eyes glued to the tv the whole time.

"Honk if..." (as stated earlier) and "Interception" games stand out to me but throughout my life, D and (field-position) kicking have gotten AU through many a game/season.

Cue the real oldsters that remember the Heisman years?

The three that come to my mind, in no particular order, are:

1. The 3-2 Miss State Game

2. The Earthquake Game at LSU (we lost at the end)

3. 1987 vs UAT (they could still be playing that and Bama would not have scored)

Still one of my favorite games of all time!!  :we:

1994 LSU interception game was amazing.

1985 against Ole Miss was total domination, though: http://articles.latimes.com/1985-10-06/sports/sp-5721_1_ole-miss.

Thanks again to golf for finding that link.

WOW I just read about that Ole Miss game and that is the definition of domination. That one was before my time

This was the first game I remember attending. It remains my ideal of a game at Jordan Hare, and I've seen some good ones!

Two that come to mind are the 88 Florida game and the 04 UGA game.  We shut the Gators out to win at Florida Field, a place we hadn't won at in a long time.  We held a top ten UGA scoreless until late in 4th quarter when they scored a TD against our back defensive players.  When the game was on the line they couldn't get anything going on us.
