AUTUmike 79
Just a hypothetical: If Chizik retired today and it was solely up to you as to who would replace him (assuming anyone offered would accept) who would you pick--keeping in mind both success and someone who would represent Auburn well? Oh and let's say no former Auburn coaches or players. Off the top of my head I'd go with Mike Gundy from OK State. What say ye?

AUTUmike 79
didnt Gundy get arrested for DUI last year? I would agree with walleyau22 I'm almost positive he did not. Nothing on Wikipedia about an arrest, nor from Google searches. I like the Harbaugh pick too.

Warnugget 127
SEriously though, BVG might be cool if it came to it. He should at least keep up this ridiculous defensive recruiting we've had lately
AUTUmike 79
2 that would in that case be a realistic possibilities are James Franklin and Charlie Strong. Yeah I thought about Franklin. I'd like to see another season of him in the SEC to see how he performs as well as if he remains composed. I do like the healthy chip he's brought to Vandy. dpwspringer 0
When listening to Chizik talk-up his new OC and DC hires in one of his interviews at SEC Media Days, I wondered how long before they will be considered for attractive HC jobs. If I remember correctly they both had similar traits: NFL experience, SEC experience, well spoken, good recruiters, and successes that jump out at you on their resume. DyeCampAlum 335
Charlie Strong would be a most promising choice. I have to ask, why would anyone wonder if Franklin can remain composed? I know he had the one run-in with UGA, but I don't see anything to suggest he can't manage himself. We shall soon see how well he gets kids coached up. This is a big year for that program. I still think we "should" have hired Gill, at least based on information that was available to the public. Thrilled with Chizik.

TheDob06 443
Franklin and Strong are likely candidates, but I believe the OP said you could pick anyone and they would accept the job. If that's the case, then I would probably go with Harbaugh as well.

Rednilla 5,438
First guy who came to my mind as far as representing Auburn well is Bill Cowher, but I do really like Gary Patterson, and I agree that Van Gorder will be a great head coach one day...I just don't know that he is ready to take on a program like Auburn just yet. waspan 0
Geez I know that was a 'what if' question and pure speculation, but don't be putting any hexes on us.........You talk about something bad long enough and it's sure to happen sooner or later..........We will NOT need any coach who is currently at any team right now to be our next head coach....I'd like to think Auburn's next HC is still worried about his SAT scores right now, or maybe thinking about his middle school teacher and the way she fluffs her hair before class.....WDE

WarEagle10 77
1. Bill Belichick--recruiting would be very easy. Press conferences, with SEC writers, would be a good laugh also. 2. Bill Cowher---recruiting would be very easy.
