AUn Collierville 1
Anyone besides me hate the MLB one game wild card playoff? A team can earn a wild card spot with a big lead over the second wild card team in their league, but can lose it all in a one-game playoff. I don't get it. A team can earn a wild card spot with a big lead over the second wild card team in their league, but can lose it all in a one-game playoff. I don't get it. It's really simple. Teams the last 5 years or so have not cared about winning the division as long as they had the wildcard spot. They would sit their players instead of trying to win the division. That in a way works against the integrity of baseball because every team should be playing to win their division. So baseball did the right the by uping the anti for winning the division by adding a second wildcard and the sudden death game.

BamaGrad03 146
This is the dumbest thing baseball has done in a long time. Seriously. There are a million reasons why a team may or may not win their division. But when you're blowing out the 2nd wildcard team, it's unfair that they get the great equalizer - the 1 game playoff. If you earn it over 162 games, you shouldn't have to play someone with a far inferior record in a 1 game playoff where they get to trot out their best starter. Baseball is a game of series and matchups, not a 1 game winner take all. To make matters worse, the Braves don't even really get to enjoy a homefield advantage because they've place the damn game in a 5pm est timeslot. No night game for home field advantage? Nope. It is on an afternoon during work hours on a work day. Thanks a lot MLB. You've rewarded the Cardinals in every way possible for having a far inferior season. It was not fair for baseball itself that teams would coast and not try to win divisions if they had a big wildcard lead. They put the onus and reward for winning divisions which is where it should be. Yes it would suck to lose to the Cards but it's the rightfull consequence for not winning your division. Where baseball is screwing up is the 2-3 format in the divisional round where the lower seeds wrongly get homefield advantage first. For example, if the Braves beat the Cards and play the Nats the first 2 games will be in Atlanta and the last 3 in Washington. it should be a 2-2-1 format instead. In my opinion if a team earns a big lead heading to the playoffs, they earned the right to rest players and experiment. If the #1 wildcard team has a big lead over the #2 wildcard team, a one game winner-take-all game is just not right. I know it can be argued both ways, but I don't care for the decision the MLB has made. I agree with the 2-2-1 format idea.

They put the onus and reward for winning divisions which is where it should be Then have the play-in be best of 3. Winner take all in one game is not fit for baseball. Now teams are just gonna coast after they have the 2nd wildcard locked up, since the only one who gets punished is the 1st wildcard.
