au2004ece 30
Romney is on point and doing well. Obama is stammering and trying to run out the clock with his boring inconsequential answers.
auburnphan 5,998
Romney has done a good job from a speaking perspective. However, he has not given or made public much of any plans, which is by design. He has taken the approach of criticizing, which anyone with any knowledge of how debates and campaigns work, completely expected. The President stayed on topic and will save his attacking until later, also by design. This is debate 101 on expectations, can't play all your cards too early. Anyone who expected differently, has played into media pundits and their extremism. Romney did very well.
au2004ece 30
I thought the only point that obama won was when he said Romney was keeping his plans secret. But, I think Romney gave a great answer and neutralize that issue. Romney won ever other topic that comes to mind.
auburnphan 5,998
this is just the floor setter for the next two debates. like a boxing match where the two fighters feel each other out in the first round.
AUMed 0
Romney wins this debate with lies, flip-flopping, and by dominating the talking time. Obama looked timid and lost the last hour. The next two debates should be a lot of fun.
au2004ece 30
I wonder what Obama's strategy will change to next time. He truly seemed to be trying to say nothing for as long as possible, like he is trying to sit on his current lead in the polls.

auburnphan 5,998
Obama will change in many ways, he will be more aggressive. He was far less prepared than Mitt, but also had no clue on what Mitt would do. Feeling things out, but should have done a better job, props to Romney early on. autigeremt 6,166
Romney was ready for this one. Obama looked lost at times and rarely made eye contact with Romney, while Romney looked over the entire time. Romney was in his wheel house. Both have the wrong path or America. At least Romney said Liberty once when talking about the words on the wall....

Obama said nothing for three minutes at a time, but since he said nothing you don't remember him talking.

Auburn85 430
I guess maybe they are holding back. Both could have took shots at the other. When Obama was talking of education, wished Romney would have brought up the D.C. school vouchers. Wished when Obama brought up all the budget cuts he made, Romney would have said "And the deficit is still $1.3 trillion."

Romney beat him up in a way that McCain and, especially, the media have refused to do. I didn't watch Fox. I did watch some of the post debate on MSNBC and CNN. MSNBC was frustrated. "Nothing about unions, nothing about women's rights, nothing about Bain, nothing about the 47%!" Chris Matthews said it best. " This was not an MSNBC debate." Auburn85 430
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/maddow-no-winner-in-this-debate-but-there-is-a-loser-jim-lehrer/ Immediately following the close of the first presidential debate between Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow said that she could not quite declare a winner but she could declare a loser – PBS anchor and debate moderator Jim Lehrer. Maddow said Lehrer helped kill this particular debate format for the foreseeable future. “In terms of how the overall debate unfolded, I personally do not know who won this debate,” Maddow said. “I do know that we saw this debate format die a very painful death on camera tonight. Maddow went on to describe Obama as appearing “calm, professorial and basically explanatory,” while she said Romney appeared “hyper” and “amped.” “That manifested in a way in which the debt format was just dismantled – the format and I think the moderator, with all due respect to Jim Lehrer,” said Maddow. Auburn85 430
I liked how Obama wanted to bring up $4 billion in oil subsidies and $1 billion corporate jet tax loophole to pay for stuff. Oh, and let's throw in the Clinton tax rates.... for the wealthy. So to recap: $70 billion $4 billion $1 billion total is $75 billion. $1.3 trillion minus $75 billion = budget fail. Yet, he calls out Romney on specifics. Well played Mr. President. Like how Romney jabbed back about green energy. Even mentioned how many teachers that would equal.
