The 100% truth about Auburn football right now.

Recommended Posts

If you are "All In" and accepting of what you saw today, then stop reading now because I'm about to get real.

As I've said before, our fanbase is way too accepting of mediocrity and down right bad football. Tell me how much it costs to buy tickets, drive your family to Auburn, buy all of the food for the tailgate, to buy any merchandise, apparel, etc. for just one game? When you buy a product, like a camera or, hell, even a lamp, you expect that camera or that lamp to work, or you would want a refund, correct? This is the same exact situation. We pay too much good money for this terrible, terrible product. I want my money back.

I can take getting beat by someone who is better than me, as long as I try my best. When Tubberville left in 2008, how many awesome names did we hear that were floated around as potential replacements??? Many names better than Gene Chizik. You know this to be true. I will quote the Auburn Creed...... "I believe in work, hard work." No matter if you're a teacher, fireman, etc. you want to be the best teacher, fireman you can be. Auburn has never tried to be the best it can be in my opinion. Any time we've had a head coaching vacancy, we always seem to settle for a lackluster coach. Why even had a program if you're not going to try???????? What's the point? I'm sorry guys but Alabama has it figured out. When they fired Shula, they went after the BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE. I know, I know that they're Bama and they are a historic program with lots of money but so are we. Or at least we could be. If I were the Athletic Director and had a coaching vacancy, I would stop at nothing to get the best possible coach. I know that it would require that coach agreeing to come, but guess what?? They'll never come if you don't ask.

Also Gene Chizik is indeed a great person. His morals and the way he carries himself are something that all people should admire. But we didn't hire him to get these players out of bad situations or to be a mentor to these kids. We hired him to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. That's all there is to it. I think he would have been much better off as a guidance counselor or working in an administrative capacity at a charity. Without Cam Newton, we would have never beaten Bama, LSU, Arkansas, or Georgia at all during his time at Auburn. And Betty White could have won a National Championship with Cam Newton and that senior class. TRUTH.

Now I don't know about you, but I try hard in everything I do and I expect results when I put in the effort. We as Auburn fans should expect results. We as a FAMILY should expect greatness because we pay for it and we're capable of it. Stop being ok with this. It is not OK. I sincerely ask that the Auburn Family continue to be a family but instead of the Brady Bunch, we need to be more like the Sopranos.

No one...and I mean NO ONE...is accepting of what we saw today. No one. When you open a post that way, everything after is moot.

Well said. Love the Betty White reference

I would also note that it's not like we are graduating choir boys under this coaching staff. We are still "young" at a lot of positions because we have kicked people off the team, or thay left, or they are in jail. If you are a good man, keeping kids out of trouble, graduating kids, and a mediocre coach,it would be tough to be this critical. All things considered, how can you not be critical?

You should get prepared for the "this is what you get when you recruit 4 and 5 star players" response. Or the worn out "GC doesn't control the cops like other coaches do."

I've been saying that all year. Chizik was hired to win football games. That my friend is the bottom line. Now I'm sure there's gonna be lots of people on here who's gonna try to put a nice spin on it.

There is no nice spin. I also forgot to add in the initial post that I believe Pat Dye is to Auburn was Al Davis was to the Raiders at the end. Also what Jerry Jones is doing to the Cowboys right now. I graduated with a history degree and people do stupid things over and over again and Auburn clearly hasn't learned anything from those disastrous examples.

Sadly, and eloquently said.

This is a business and ours is run like it was in Mayberry.

The SEC is a rough neigborhood. Unless we want to continue to get mugged we need to make changes.

I can accept last year, but this year there are no excuses. We have Gene Zook as our head coach, and finishing in the top 10 in recruiting ain't worth it if this is the level of play we're going to get from said recruits.

It's time for a change.

Don't get me wrong,I'm not calling for anyones' head at this point. But I am not sure why some on here think we should be....maybe not happy, but semi-OK with being awful at this time. I've watched football all day,and offensively,we are one of the worst I've seen. And I'm am not talking about the players. They are AU men and are trying as hard as they can and show glimpses of absolutely awesome talent. We have to find ways to put them in positions to win. I believe a defensive coach scouting our offensive scheme is smiling broadly by game time.

Why can we have such good recruiting classes and such a sub-par product on the field? In my opinion the only coach that appears to care is our new defensive coach. I know the excuses, we are young, new coordinators, etc but is it to much to expect a team that is competitive from week to week. What happened to the passion and heart demonstrated against LSU. It was non-existent today right from kick-off. I will continue to support the young men who go out there week after week, but as a fan it is a difficult pill to swallow. War Eagle

Y'all do remember don't you that NS was about their fourth choice after Rich Rodriguiz and a couple other turned them down. Previously they hired Mike Price who never coached a game and who was the guy who was sleeping with someone in the athletic office? I get tired of this kind of BS that bama does things right all the time. They lucked out with NS after a succession of poor coaches and probation.

Hiring a football coach is hit or miss in most cases and someone noted in a post that they wanted to fire Chiz..but didn't have any idea who to hire as a replacement since that was JJ's job...kinda like firing a rifle without any concern where the bullet lands. If folks are going to lobby for a change, they ought to at least have some idea what they are changing to. The idea that " anyone would be an improvement" is nonsense...just check Tenn, Ole Miss and others.

There is waaay too much emotion being expressed and IMO, not near enough thinking about the ramifications.

This is the job of the Athletic Director.. To hire the best possible coaches and watch their progressions over the respected programs. When you have an AD who is not doing his job.. then you must clean house from the top down.. Having a competent AD is the starting point. A compentent AD will bring in a good coach.. etc.. etc..

I had faith in Chizik, I may be wrong. This may be iowa State all over again. I don't say fire him now, but if Chiz can not keep our top recruits, we have no future, so I would let him go after signing day in Feb. I would first clean the slate and fire JJ first to get rid of the old wood that is still hanging around. We need a top notch Athletic Director first to find the very best coach possible and do what ever it takes to get hi. Auburn needs to change it's philosophy and attitude. Forget the family, just win.

Way too much over reaction. Gene Chizik will right this, just give him a chance to correct this.

The fan base has rallied around chizik.....and we have regressed and now a very embarrassing program. The fans have done their job.... The coaches haven't. Time for a new AD and new coach.

I think a simple tweaking at o.c. could be sufficient to right the ship. I could be wrong. :dunno:

You are wrong. :poke:

Care to elaborate? I think we saw how much a good coach can make an immediate impact i.e.: BVG
