Getting rid of Tubbs. I know alot of folks still have alot of love for him, but that was a sinking ship. Quibble about whether or not his replacement is up to snuff if you wish, but we'd be in the exact same scenario today if a change wasn't made, worse as a matter of fact. And you we wouldn't have that crystal football to boot.

Valid argument. I would agree with this.

His Equestrian team won a National Championship! War Damn Pony Jump! (My girlfriend is an equestrian in Olympic trials, she'd kill me if she saw this, but she actually makes fun of the Auburn team.)

He made a commitment to the basketball program through facilities and hiring CTB (whom I thought was a great hire at the time) but for whatever reasons (can't get talent into action - just like football...Hmmm....) they aren't winning. Don't see that as JJ's fault but beyond that, nothing positive.

This is only his 3rd year here. His team improved in year 2 from year 1 and I have no doubt that year 3 will be even better. The talent level is going up with the addition of Dixon-Tatum (7 footer) and Shaquille Johnson among others. Nothing happens over night, but Barbee is a great coach and a great recruiter. We will continue to see improvement there and I really think we will be a tournament team. It may be the NIT, but tournament team non the less.

Any eval of an AD is going involve very indirect credit or blame.

The good:

IMHO he deserves much credit for the 2010 national title in football, our first in over 50 years (after a slew of other ADs). He went out on a limb to hire Chizik who then assembled the staff that got Cam w/out whom we do not get that title. As an alum I'm personally pretty happy with the way he oversaw the university's response to the media frenzy witch hunt re Cam that drove the bogus NCAA investigation.

The bad/ugly:

hard to say relatively speaking our current athletic program is doing well in the wins/losses dept. The budget enhancing sports particularly suck.

In August I posted here we'd go 1-4 then win 6, and barely lose to Bama this year followed by top 5 caliber teams the next couple years. If that happens and our basketball & baseball show improvement and swimming stays dominant I'm good.

I agree WT. It looks like the basketball team is on the upswing. I also think Barbee was a great hire. Ony time will tell though. Lebo didn't actually set the bar very high for us. I say we just forget about football and become a basketball school.

The management of the NCAA investigation was masterful. Both in how AU handled a VERY hostile media and in forcing the hand of the NCAA. For there to have been that much scrutiny over a 12 month period and for AU to come out on the other side clean, AND with an unprecedented letter from the NCAA stating so, should never be overlooked. The on the field product he has overseen has been abysmal without question.

I for one have not been impressed by JJ as an AD.

We can all recount failures in the past and if you can't you haven't been paying attention.

]It is obvious to me that we will not move forward in Athletics with JJ at the helm. Everybody has their time to be associated

with a program and two old hangers on, Wayne Bolt and Coach Dye will not be gone as long as JJ is @ helm.

The immediate fix needed is in football and we need a strong AD to go out and interview and bring the beginnings of a new staff together.

Yes, I am in that camp. Look @ the success Fla has had with a professional AD and even Al. with Mal Moore, not the sharpest tack but a shrewd

one and one unafraid to pull the trigger when the obvious was in his face.

So many of us Arm Chair QBs know coaches names. Who should we be considering and what set of skills should we want in a new ad ?

Any suggestions as to names ?

basketball is improving? by what metric? point shaving scandals?

baseball is a disaster! We are fortunate to finish in the middle of the SEC.

I have zero insight, but here is a list of top candidates for AD.

Jim Phillips

Northwestern University

Central region

Phillips is in his fifth year as Northwestern AD. Under his guidance, the school’s football and men’s basketball programs have reached postseason play in each of the last four seasons. Women’s lacrosse (six NCAA titles), women’s tennis (13 straight Big Ten titles), men’s soccer, softball, men’s golf, fencing and wrestling all have won team or individual conference championships. Ticket sales, sponsorship and development revenues are at all-time highs.

Ian McCaw

Baylor University

West region

Since McCaw’s tenure as Baylor’s AD began in 2003, the school has won three NCAA team championships and 35 Big 12 Conference titles. Baylor led the Big 12 in graduation rates for three consecutive years and student athletes recorded their highest cumulative grade-point average on record during 2010-11 at 3.12. McCaw spearheaded a strategic plan that led to a successful $95 million development campaign.

Jim Fiore

Stony Brook University

Northeast region

Now in his ninth year as AD, Fiore has restructured the program with the hiring of new coaching and administrative staffs, implemented facility upgrades, celebrated record philanthropic achievements, and overseen budget growth from $9 million to $20 million. He now is overseeing nearly $80 million in facility upgrades, highlighted by a new basketball arena and new baseball stadium.

Jeff Barber

Liberty University

Southeast region

Barber was named AD in 2006 and immediately began efforts to improve every athletic venue. Liberty is building a 2,500-seat baseball stadium, a new basketball practice facility and new golf facilities. In 2010, Liberty expanded Williams Stadium, increasing the seating capacity to 19,200, and adding an 11,000-square-foot Flames Club Pavilion and 18 luxury suites.

What has Jay Jacobs done for AU?

Built Dorms right in the middle of our parking lot, Took away a true tailgating experience by moving everyone a mile away from the stadium, losing our baseball coach and swim/dive coach, build an average football program. Have I missed anything?

Actually I tell you who I wish AU would hire is Oliver Luck he is a tremendously intelligent thinking outside the box AD.

He is the one the said left up to him his club would skip a bowl game play a postseason game on campus then send the team to disneyworld themselves. How refreshing and he hired Holgorson.

YES, basketball is improving. This is Barbee's 3rd year here. He's a tremendous recruiter and a solid coach. We aren't going to go from the bottom of the SEC to a National Title in 2 years. Either you are completely uninformed and not paying attention or you are just clueless about what it takes to build a program. The players we have coming in this year are all solid players. Our record improved in year 2 from year 1 and I see nothing to indicate it won't improve in year 3 from year 2. I have no doubt that we will be a serious tournament contender this year. It may only be the NIT, but clearly its a step in the right direction.

Point shaving scandals? Seriously? Where was that? Apparently you don't know much about that either. That had absolutely NOTHING to do with Auburn. That was a Varez Ward problem, NOT an Auburn problem. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the basketball program at Auburn. If you think it does, then you really are clueless.

I would love nothing more than to get to the postseason, but i don't see it happening. The player turnover on the team is at an all time high. The new recruits have not played one game yet, so I will reserve judgement on them. I hope it works out, but Barbee's brief history with Auburn has seen many players brought in and not pan out. The leadership on the team will be Wallace, Frankie and Chubb, all Lebo guys. This is year 3 and the Barbee guys which should be entering their junior season now are no where to be found. How many barbee guys on the team with any experience?? Noel Johnson (half year with auburn), Payne/Denson (2 years of exp) and that is it. He doesn't even have a sophomore on the roster.

as for VW, i suggest you look up the term "absolute" when you have a chance. The last time i heard, VW tanked an Auburn home game while dressed in an Auburn uniform on the Auburn campus. While the administration had no knowledge and are not linked (thank God!), it is still a negative news item surrounding Auburn basketball.
