Looking back and looking ahead, Chizik opines...

Gene Chizik on film: "I think it was pretty much what everybody saw." Said O had "glaring" inability to run consistently.

...

Chiz on sacks: "QB holding ball too long, some of it was OL, some of it was RB. Different reasons for it, but results were the same."

...

Chizik on QB play: "Both of those guys, when they had time to throw, both of them threw the ball well at times."

...

More Chiz on QB: "There were also bad decisions there mixed in." He said QB will be evaluated more through week. Didn't commit to one.

...

Chizik on QB switch: "It felt like we needed a spark." He confirmed final Frazier sack played into the decision.

...

Chizik on QBs: "Neither one of them is real vocal. I'm not saying that in bad way. Clint is not afraid to express his emotion out there."

...

Chizik: "We were making some progress offensive line-wise. And I expect them to make some more."

...

Chizik on offensive line: "As a whole, as a unit, I don't think you can pinpoint the play on one guy."

...

Chizik asked if there could be personnel changes on O line for Ole Miss: "I wouldn't rule that out."

...

Chizik says Avery Young "is a little banged up right now." He said his disappearance has been health and performance based.

...

Chizik said Quan Bray status unchanged: "He's going to practice today, and we're going to make that decision." Bray didnt practice last week

...

Chizik: "I think we have to go back and evaluate, conceptually, an identity of who we want to be in the running game."

...

Chizik: "We would like to play with the fullback. There's no question about that." He said it depends on personnel packages.

...

Chizik also hinted that there could be more carries for fullback Jay Prosch in the future, but unlikely a lot.

...

Chizik blunt about offense's lack of identity: "I feel like we skipped around a little bit on that."

...

Chizik said Scot Loeffler will stay on sideline no matter who plays QB: "Regardless of which quarterback is down there, that's the plan."

...

Chizik said Auburn knew its identity going into Clemson opener. Then offense expanded, maybe a little too much. O has to zero back in.

...

Chizik said Mike Blakely's fumbles concerning, but not in doghouse: "I'm not going to blackball a guy for fumbling. He's done nice things."

...

Asked why Tre Mason didn't get more carries, Chizik went back lack of identity. Said he'd like Mason to get more carries, but not only him.

...

Chizik met with players today: "I think they're very disappointed, as you would imagine. Everybody wants to win."

...

Chizik not downplaying his program's reality: "It's all hard to swallow. It really is. It's all hard to swallow."

...

Chizik pleased with effort: "I thought they played the whole time. You go back and look at the film, I thought they played the whole time."

...

Chizik on Ole Miss: "Defensively, it's going to be a huge challenge."

...

Chizik said CB Chris Davis is "a little banged up right now." And Dee Ford? "Same."

@AUBlog

Chizik on Patrick Miller: "It's a journey. We helped him in his first start (vs. LSU) with some chipping. Some growing pains yesterday."

I really don't know what coach Chizik can say at this point to make anyone feel better

about this team. However he can start helping by demanding the OC to give the offense

an idenity. I would line up in the power I 80 percent of the time and play action the

remaining 20 percent. Scrap all that pre snap motion and let your O-line fire off the ball.

All the weight falls back on Him. He knows that. I can guarantee he is not sleeping well at night. Coach Chizik has problems. Hopefully the team pulls together, and not apart at the seams.

He could never say anything at this point to make anyone feel better so I wouldn't expect it. The man is embarrassed by what has transpired and I am sure he blames the man in the mirror but he has to keep pluggin along. That is what real men do.

Chizik: "I think we have to go back and evaluate, conceptually, an identity of who we want to be in the running game."

huh?

Translation -- we need to establish the run, run more, and run more inside (using Mason, I hope, and Prosch).

We saw Prosch run the ball yesterday at least once. He looked winded on the sideline a couple of times. I think he is playing special teams as well.

DT Jeff Whitaker: "I think that you expect more, first from yourself. And then you expect more from each individual.

...

Whitaker: "We're working on defensively changing the culture, and we're going through the growing pains right now."

...

Does D have small margin of error? Whitaker: "People say b/c of the O struggles at times, but I think you have mindset going into any game."

...

Whitaker: "One thing here will never change – it's Auburn – is that there's no such thing as quitting."

...

Whitaker: "I think every week in the SEC is a gut check. It's like every given Saturday."

...

Whitaker not worried youngsters will get used to losing: "I would be worried if I saw older guys packing it in, and that's what they see."

...

Whitaker is frustrated, but not with the offense: "I just think losing is frustrating."

DE Dee Ford: "Believe it or not, the record is 1-4 but we are getting better."

...

Ford: "It hurts. Of course it hurts to be 1-4, but we're just at a point right now where we've just really got to dig down."

...

Ford said motivation must come from older guys: "When you're a young guy, you're going to feed off what the older guys do."

...

Ford: "As far as for me, I can't speak for everybody else, but for me, my approach is a short memory."

...

Ford said team has had great practices, but "when the bullets get to flying you have to really lock in and focus. That's a work in process."

...

Ford on playing road games: "As far as defense, I actually think it's much easier. There's a lot less noise. Communication" is easier.
