Focus on Tre Mason

If Auburn is going to have success on offense against Ole Miss, Tre Mason needs to be a focal point on offense. As of late, Mason has seen a limited role with only 15 carries in the last 2 games. During his career, Mason has 87 career rushes of which 40 have gone for 5-yards, 17 for 10-yards and 7 of 15-yards or more. He is currently 2nd on the team with 5 impact plays, behind Emory Blake.

Off tackle play...

On this play Auburn has the football 1st & 10 at the Arkansas 46-yard line. The Tigers will run an off tackle run play to the right. Philip Lutzenkirchen and Patrick Miller are key to opening up a running lane ("C" gap) for Tre Mason. Once through the hole, Mason benefits from Chad Slade shading a LB to get Mason to the sideline for a 9-yard gain. Tre Mason's quickness on the play allowed him to avoid 2 tackles before he was finally hauled in.

Zone Counter play...

On this play Auburn faces a 2nd & 8 and will execute their zone-counter play with Tre Mason. The key to the play is a pulling Chad Slade and Philip Lutzenkirchen. At the snap Mason moves left to right to take the inside hand off from Kiehl Frazier. He takes one step to his right but then reverses direction to sweep left behind the pulling guard and TE.

Slade takes out the DE and Lutzenkirchen engages the OLB, which allows Mason the ability to bounce the play outside for a 10-yard gain and an Auburn first down. Blessed with quickness, lateral movement and vision, Tre Mason has consistently been able to get the most of the space given to him. He wastes no time getting north & south, which makes him less vulnerable to be tackled for a loss.

Auburn running backs have traditionally played well against Ole Miss and hopefully Tre Mason will have the opportunity to do the same this Saturday.

Amen Stat. There is an explosiveness and north and south get those yards style to Tre that reminds me of Brent Fullwood. The way they both hit the hole full speed. This young man needs at least 15 touches if not more. WDE

I find it easy as an arm chair quarterback to criticize the coaches for not feeding him more to date particularly at those times when he has ripped off a few nice gains in a row but hesitate to do so since they are so close to it and obviously should know best. Is it possible the CSL is just out thinking himself or is there some other reason why Tre has not gotten the rock more that is not apparent to a normal fan?

In the LSU game, Loeffler knew points would be difficult to obtain and was hoping they could get the big play out of McCalebb. Auburn came close on one play in terms of htting a 60+ play with McCalebb. The Arkansas game appeared to be about attcking Arkansas with the pass-offense and the running game was simply neglected.

Love IT ----- real talk!

I have wondered why we have strayed away from the off tackle run with prosch leading mason. I understand we need to kickstart our passing game and it is just my humble opinion that we knew Arky had a soft secondary and tried to get it going with that game at home - just so happened to backfired.

I think Prosch needs to have an oxygen mask like Bane has on Dark Knight Rises and play every offensive snap and an oxygen tank to boot on his back.

CGC said Mason would play more. So maybe he won't get took out of the game for making plays anymore.

They said mason would play more against arky too. Didn't happen

I thinks that's CGC call instead of CSL. Chiz has been accused of playing favorites once this year already
