This year is a real opportunity

There will be two, maybe more extremely good football minds available in Gus Malzahn and Petrino. They won't be available next year. Strike while the iron is hot.

Malzahn would be a monumental failure.

We need a proven HEAD coach IMO

You at least have to say he might be a monumental failure. I agree he's not a proven head coach but neither was bill belichick when he got his first job. That is also not to say i think gus is bill, he may be terrible

I would love to have Gus. He is probably my top pick for an attainable replacement. Good morals and would love to see what he could do without someone meddling in his offense. He would also bring Kodi and Rhett back to AU.

Gus will NEVER be a failure. He is too smart. Too dedicated. He is a winner!

Charlie Strong. My goodness boys. He's winning and has won as a coordinator in the SEC as well. He's legit, smart and a proven head coach.

Okay I admit I went overboard on monumental failure but it wouldn't be a smart hire

or Kirby Smart. UGA is probably looking at him really hard. He won't be available next year either. However, he is unproven.

Petrino hasn't lost to anyone outside the top five in three years. He's not much of a human being, but he's a heck of a coach. Sounds like someone we know from the other side of the state.

I've watched Arkansas St. play 4 games this year and Gus is not the answer. They were better coached last year with Hugh Freeze.

But they are young and he is in his first year. :)

I like Gus, BTW. But he would need to find a DC that can compliment his style.

Speaking of which, I wonder how much Gus has meddled the defense at ASU. Is he hands off or taking the CEO approach?

My goodness. I'd take anything right now. We CAN'T get worse!

Sure we can. That's what ND thought when they hired Charlie Weiss....and Kansas thought when they hired Charlie Weiss.....and Kansas when they hired Turner Gill. And what Ole Miss thought when the fired David Cutcliffe and hired Ed Ogeron...and fired him and got Houston Nutt. It's quite easy to hire the wrong coach .....especially when everyone thinks "we can't do any worse".

Does anybody remember when Chizik left Auburn to become DC at Texas? If I remember correctly he said something to the effect moving to the longhorns would give him a better opportunity to become a head coach, meaning to me he could't do it while working at Auburn. I appreciate him getting Cam to come here and lead us to a national championship. But let's face it, since then he and his staff have done next to nothing. Great recruiters, lousy coaches.
