Obvious Recruiting Advantages

Recruiting against Alabama has become even more of a challenge with their recent success under Nick Saban. Bottom line, they have won a lot of games and championships to go along with top-5 defenses for 5 consecutive seasons. It certainly makes their job easier selling their success on defense to future recruits.

Everything changes with winning (consistently)... Media attention, preseason rankings and recruiting.

Over the past 5 seasons, Alabama has compiled the best win pct in the SEC with a 61-7 record. During the same time period, they have sent 24 players to the NFL through the draft. Georgia and LSU are currently tied for 1st place with 28 players drafted from 2008-2012. Auburn has 15.

Alabama has sent the most players to the NFL Draft from 2009-2012. During those 4 drafts, Alabama had 24 to Auburn's 10. For now, 5 other teams within the conference have placed more players in the NFL Draft than Auburn from 2008-2012. IMO, this is a very strong recruiting class Malzahn's staff is piecing together but the key will be development, something the previous staff lacked. Win 6-8 games in 2013 and build from there. The 2010 season was terrific but was sandwiched between two 8-5 seasons. Alabama currently has 5 consecutive 10-win seasons going, while Auburn has five 10-win seasons from 1993-2012. Difficult to recruit and compete against consistency.

Right now, Auburn has to sell their "future" to recruits, while teams like Alabama, Georgia and LSU can sell recent success in wins and NFL draft picks. This is why I believe the current coaching staff is doing a very good job in selling the future but it will require eventual success to maintain it.

I've stated the obvious but that's my 2 cents...biggrin.gif

Looking forward to seeing the 2013 class sign tomorrow, hopefully with a strong finish for the final 7 players, which appears to be highly probable. Sometimes we get caught up on the one's we lost in recruiting more so than appreciating the players Auburn inked. This will be a great beginning for Malzahn's staff but can they build on it?

Nice summary - I think I would have waited until Thursday to post it though.

Good stuff. Looks like all RF threads have disappeared. I posted Sunday that he was a prima donna and a drama queen and the mods deleted it. What a cock and bull show off.

So what exactly that Ole Miss sell that they do so well in recruiting this year? I don't think it is consecutive 10 wins season, NFL future or any kinds of championship.

girls, booze, and money?

I kid..

Again...it's about consistency. Ole Miss is certainly having a solid year in recruiting but one great class won't translate into a championship team. Ole Miss is currently No. 12 according to Scout and had top-20 classes in 2009, 2010 and 2011. It still comes down to player development for the recruiting to actually payoff. Comparing the Rebels 2013 recruiting class to what Alabama, Georgia and LSU have done over an extended period of time is apple to oranges. Recruiting does become easier, when the coaching staff can sell "winning" and "championships". I never said it was the only way to sell recruits or Auburn would not be headed towards a top12-15 class this season.

Thanks again Stat.

There's more than one way to win in this conference and I think CGM brings a new variety to the mix. Let's hope it's enough to usurp the big dogs we have to compete against. UGA/LSU/UAT won't be backing down one bit - and Sumlin/aTm are here to freakin play ball.

The most important part of your insightful post is player developement. UATs' 2008 class had 3 - 5 star athletes,of which Julio is the only one that panned out. Saban, however, has put more 3 star athletes in the pros in his tenure at UAT than 4 an 5 stars. Evaluation and developement are as important as recruiting in my humble opinion, and maybe more so. Cody and that Australian were both 3 star athletes,as was their Heisman trophy winner. One of my greatest wishes is that the last group of coaches could at least evaluate talent, and this bunch can develope them. If so,this could be a really fun "turn around" season. My greatest wish is that this coaching staff can both evaluate and develope talent, and recruit to OUR system,on offense and defense. WDE.

A&M looks dangerous and their recruiting has really stepped up. They can offer kids out of Texas an opportunity to play SEC football. Put a top-30 defense with their current offense and they can win it all. With Tennessee going to a spread attack, I like the fact Auburn is going to a base 4-2-5.

I am glad Reuben is gone..he is with the dark side and he is where he should be..glad we don't have to "take care" of him

These kind of comments make me sick. When we flipped him from bama we all talked about what a great guy he was and great leadership abilites with great character . Now he is a low life when they flipped him back. You can't have them both ways guys. I for one wish him the best except when he plays us. I really wish we had got him.
