I wonder if we have even seen Gus's "hurry-up offense" yet?

Quote from the AL.com article re Left Guard:

"Kozan practiced at guard and center throughout spring practice, but settled on the left side. Danzey, who played in an uptempo offense at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College last season, shared snaps with Kozan, who redshirted last season at Auburn.

"It's lot faster than what I thought it was going to be," Danzey said of the Tigers' offense. "We ran a fast-pace offense in juco but nothing compared to this."

Perhaps we haven't yet seen a "full Gus" offense yet. It seems to me that Gus is fully committed to the concept and now that he's head coach there are no constraints in implementing it.

As a follow-up question, will we see a renewal of the "Meerkat" signal transfer system? :big:

I have a feeling that the "full speed" Gus offense that Danzey was talking about was the HUNH state of mind of the entire team (everybody practices fast, not just the offense).

As far as the meerkat play calling, the number system made an appearance at A Day if I am not mistaken, that system of play calling allows position coaches to make sure that their guys know certain things before each play (who to key on in blocking, what gap to look for in rushing, etc). It is a risk though, I am still of the opinion that Bama had our play calls during the 1st half of the iron bowl in 2010. Once we started running plays in with WRs, they couldn't stop us.

I remember reading that, but I don't remember if anyone on the bama side actually acknowledged it, (which is totally understandable). But it sure as hell looked that way. I think you're right.

I am looking forward to seeing Gus' O when he has nobody to answer to. I hope we get the QB play Gus wants. I hope we get the OL play Gus wants. I hope some WR's step up for us. This could be very entertaining to watch.

I believe this will be one of the most entertaining football seasons in Auburn history. We may not win them all, however I believe the offensive juggernaut will be great fun to watch for fans and an inspiration to the defensive side as well. After all the points, the defense will fly around, and play as hard, if not harder, than the offense. I can't wait to see Gus put the petal to the metal. It's going to be Gus Unchained! WDE!

After re-watching the game on YouTube and just looking at the stats, I don't think that there is an argument out there that will change my mind. They couldn't beat us fair, so they tried to cheat. But Gus outsmarted Nick and Kirby (shocker I know) and let his offense runs circles around their "NFL caliber" defense. They hit hard, but if they can't catch us, they can't tackle us.

You have to remember Spanky was on Belichick's staff at New England, the biggest play stealer of them all. I am sure Bill taught him a few things. I really do think they had our signals the first half but we all know how that turned out. ;D

I agree. Whoever was calling the game even said "it's like bama is in their huddle" at one point in the first half. I don't think I have ever seen a game change,so dramatically, from one half to the next. It wasn't only the O. Our D was dominant the second half. We handed them their three points on a silver platter. Good times.

This will be the first time Gus will have absolute control AND the level of athletes he has on this team. I think we'll see a slight jump in our offensive stats this year. LOL

Interesting theory and probably very true.

We haven't seen the speed and consistency which Gus would like to reach. I would say look for it about the fifth game of the season to begin to get to top form:

I think the only time we saw the HUNH offense running full throttle was the Tennessee game in Knoxville in 2009. Watch the video - the UT players were completely gassed and bending over with their hands on their hips.

WDE

I think that Gus will run as fast as the players can. Probably will vary at times this year but by the end of the season will be turbo mode. I would guess that the 2014 season will be even faster.

I cannot wait to see the wrath of Gus on Saban's minions with bammer when they cannot figure out the plays until we line up and move the ball 15-20 yards down the field each play.

I agree with statement also! Remember saban does not like fast offenses because he cant fix his defense like he wants to. This will be an interesting season to say the least!! WDE!!
