I am very excited about the prospect of him on our D-Line for the next 4 years. Not sure he plays as a True Frosh or at least that is my hope. I want us to be good enough at DT that he gets a Red Shirt to allow him to get his body tuned up for violent nature of an SEC DT.

Can you tell he looks fit in that picture ? Even with the loose fitting shirt on, at 302 lbs. there sure doesn't seem to be much "unnecessary" body weight on him.

This kid will definitely play this year, he didn't come to Auburn to sit the bench he came to start. Just compare him physically to the guys in our two deep he's a better athlete than everyone one of them except maybe Blackson, after what I saw from our DTs last year he is at the very least going to be in the rotation.

you cant tell anything by looking at that picture. but 1 thing i can tell you is he did not come to Auburn to redshirt.

You can't ? I thought I just did, lol. I've seen him many times before and he is a very stout and fit young man.

By and large a player benefits from a red-shirt season...it would be nice if it were not necessary to play him this season.

The number 1 defensive tackle in the country is not brought in to redshirt. Especially when the people on the team before him went 3-9.

That is one reason for the JUCO. MA may show up ready to play but I am want to see him against good competition on a daily basis. The S&C program at his HS isn't what it is at some of the bigger schools. He did great at camps however against some good players but they were HS kids as well. He will be a stud no doubt, I just don't want him in there until he is ready.

^^ This.

I'd rather see him better in the long run, and I think that comes from redshirting. That said, I'm not the coach. I've got faith in this staff - they haven't let me down yet!

^^ 100% Agree, and thats how it should be. But some want and see JJ starting as a freshman instead of sitting, but doubt a jc qb that has played sec football once before but at a different position. Still with that being said Gus and EJ will make the decision on monty.

Don't be so certain. I don't know the kid and have never met him, and don't know the coaches so I don't have any special insight.

A friend of mine (well, Dad of one of my son's friends) has spent some time with the family and said that as good as MA is, he needs a redshirt year spent in the gym. He said MA is more big than strong and he played in Class A ball in Georgia. That's a big jump to starting against Bama, LSU, UGA.... as a true freshman.

Again, I don't have an opinion based on my personal knowledge of the kid, just relaying info passed on to me. I'm for whatever helps him, and therefore Auburn, become better. If that means redshirt, so be it, if that means starting against Washington State then I'm fine with that too.
