Coaches in the summer

So, I know the coaches spend the majority of the summer on the road, and I know there is no formal practice allowed between Spring and Fall practice, but what level of interaction are the coaches allowed to have with players during this period?

I'm not actually sure, but I know that CRG sent some D-Linemen to work with Chuck Smith (AKA Dr. Rush) in Atlanta, similar to what Manziel did last year (working with an outside coach on his game).

What I'm really interested in finding out is what they can provide, from an instructional standpoint, to incoming players, and whether they can actively spend time with players, just talking, to work on some of the mental issues from last year.

Obviously Ive never played before, but I would assume they can voluntarily work with coaches in disorganized sessions. Just no formal practices or sessions.

No coaching during the summer...the only coach that can have that kind of contact is S&C. I don't even think that they can do film room study with them. As for the players they can organize all they want and go through plays etc but the coaches cannot participate.

So they can't even sit and talk with them unless it's shooting the bull over lunch or something? That's too bad.

My big hope was that Malzhan would be able to spend a few hours a week with Frazier, trying to figure out what's going on in his head and how he went from Mr. Football to having accuracy and vision issues.

I am pretty sure that Kiehl had some one on one time with Cam this spring...

Yes he did. Here are the AU guys with Smith at his training camp. Bradley has some wide shoulders on him doesn't he. One stout looking DT.

Love me some Cam for sure but i would've liked to have seen KF work with a more experienced former NFL/college QB or go to a camp. Cam is still learning the NFL and QB position himself. I think Cam can certainly help with KF's confidence and loosen him up some but a camp/training session with someone more experience would've been really benefical for KF IMO.

I was thinking the one to the right of Smith was Bradley. I had remembered the pic below and I thought he had grown a beard like Gabe's. Now that I compare them side by side I think you are right. I don't know who he is then or the 2 guys in the back to the right.

I agree that's too bad to us right now, because we are now on our 3rd head coach in the last 5 yrs. But on the other hand, thank goodness this NCAA rule is in place. Can you imagine how the Muschamps/Miles/Sabans/Meyers/Spurriers/Sumlins/Stoops/Swineys/Fishers would take advantage of the contact during the offseason if they were allowed to "shoot the bull" with their players over lunch? :yikes:

I think that may be President and Blackson in the back. Not sure who the guy in the front by Ken Carter is, but I know it's not Ben Bradley.

Looking at their profile pics it looks like it is possible, although if its Blackson, he is making a face so its hard to tell. Now all we have to figure out, who is the guy I thought was Bradley, lol.

Honestly, I wouldn't care what any of them do with the time, if it's allowed to everyone. As long as they aren't trying to secretly run team practices (which would be pretty hard to hide), then it's really just a matter of who uses that time more wisely. Honestly, with some of those coaches, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they already have people who aren't on the staff doing things with the team in the summer. We all know saban is a master of the loophole.

I want to say Saban had the largest non coaching staff in the SEC. I am willing to bet these non coaches have constant contact with his players.

Every program should be doing the same then, if they're willing to open up the pocketbook and pay the salaries. IMO, the more eyes on the day to day operations, player development, player progress, and just more eyeballs on the individual player activities is better for everyone.
