Paul Finebaum's radio silence has an end date: Aug. 1.

Finebaum, the polarizing personality of college football's signature call-in show, is leaving the Birmingham, Ala., market where his contract expired in January, for Charlotte, N.C., and a national forum: ESPN. His multi-tiered platform will include a radio program on ESPN networks, 100 televised appearances annually on ESPN and a TV simulcast of his radio show on the ESPN-owned SEC Network launching in August 2014.

"It would be the understatement of my life to say I wasn't thrilled," Finebaum said. "It is incredibly exciting to be part of a new adventure, particularly one that involves the premiere brand in sports along with the pre-eminent conference in sports." Finebaum has a five-year contract.

Neither he nor ESPN would give financial details.

The show would have to be entirely entertainment based, because there is no evidence that finebaum knows or understands sports as played on the court, ice or field. Just a pot stirrer.

Guess that means he'll be on 97.3. They're an espn affiliate.

ESPN just announced that they are cutting about 300+ jobs...probably to make room for Slimebaum under their salary cap.

NC as well, hope he likes BB. I lived there for a few years. Awesome state, but they dont have crazies like we have here. He will suffer from lack of that. He is a "caller show" after all.

He'll still draw callers, from all over the Southeast. He'll make more money, sell more of his next book, and stir up more SEC fans from a broader audience. He's a sports op-ed guy, not a sports reporter. Some of you take him too seriously. I don't really care what any of the sports op eds guys say. I watch sports because I love sports...and I don't let the opinions of the commentators lessen that, nor do I care if ESPN is the medium through which I watch most of it.

I'm just bummed 97.3 went the way that it did - was enjoying it for a while when it started. Nice having Stan on there and having Eyes on Auburn.

They needed an upgrade though. The morning show with Scarbinski and Matt or Scott (ever since they hosted the show together forever ago, I cant remember which one is which) is ok, a little better then JOX's morning show. From there it is awful The sports czars sound like they should be announcing a high school football game. I think Wimp and (matt or scott) got cancelled, and the later show is another (matt or scott) and the guy from the horse track. They are limping along at best.

Spot on!!!! Lets hear Slimebaum break down how the Lakers can rebuild and become a contender with a coach who does not have the talent to run his offense.

Or lets hear him discuss the impact at the slot reciever the loss of Wes Welker will have on New England.

Or maybe he can talk about what a fantastic job Terry Francona has done in Cleveland.

Or better yet break down the NHL playoffs for us.

This SOB dont know crap. ESPN just lost credibiility.

He was able to parlay his Auburn-bashing Danny Sheridan segments on Outside the lines into a full time job. Way to go BSPN.
