What are your thoughts on the WSU opener? I see several national "pundits" saying the Wassues are gonna beat us. I believe we win by 17 or more.

On paper, Auburn's roster dwarfs WSU's. Only thing that is a little scary is this will be Leach's second year and he could have them playing a lot better in their system which could be a pain in the butt to deal with. Hopefully, AU's run game will control this game and let our QB's get their feet wet.

we will annihilate them. punish them. roadhouse them.

Tre Mason will get major love from the national media after this one.

I think we will win just on talent, however this will be a good opener to find out what works and what does not work. We will learn alot about the team the first game.

However, if we don't win then there is more work to be done that I would have guessed, don't want to think about that.

40-17

We give away a late touchdown. Not even as close as the score looks.

Honestly, I think Auburn is a Oregon level nightmare for WashU. The last thing Leach wants to go up against is a defense that practices against the HUNH, especially one that also has the size and strength that we have. Sure... first game inconsistencies will cost us a touchdown or two, but I don't see how we could possibly lose or even win by less than 2 scores. I expect a few sacks and our first INT in the secondary since 2011.

The Air Raid type offense's have given us fits the last 4 years so until I see us actually tackle in space I'm going to assume we will struggle defending them. I still think we win the game but I think it will be much closer than we would like.

Yep, their offensive style would have destroyed us the last four years. I think they'll do a lot of quick passes and screens to neutralize our pass rush, so we'll have to tackle well in space and play tight coverage. I think we'll win, but it won't be a cakewalk.

In as much as I would rather feel we win comfortably, until I see vast improvements, I agree with you. A nail biter wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Leach is scary good in my book. Our D will be tested right out of the box. That game being at our house, you know it will be packed, and loud, to welcome Gus back home, will be the thing that pulls this one out for the good guys. If anybody needs the winning lottery numbers, PM me.

I agree, it will be down to the wire much like Auburn vs Utah State in 2011, could be OT, home field gives it to us

It's Auburn.

Of course it's going to be so close my blood pressure will double.

It would not surprise me at all to see wash st. Come out swinging early. I think Leach is good, and will throw a lot of stuff at us, knowing that any win against Auburn would be a big upset. I think we win by what the score says is comfortable, but I wouldn't be surprised to see our guys have to fight for it for some of the game, and then pull away late. I'd say 34-17. And btw, is it too early to talk about what kind of impact playing Ark. St. Will have on CGM?

A weird way I kinda want this to be a repeat of the WV game from 09. It was so epic. I will never forget JHS from that night.

I can't find the article where I read it a couple weeks ago but given Wazzu is starting 4 walk on O Linemen I will be shocked if Leach's offense is anywhere remotely effective as his offenses usually are.

Just read this awfully nice post about a Washington State fans experience at AU in 2006. Enjoy.

Lessons Learned

I was there in 2006 and if work/wife allows, I’ll be there this year as well. My lessons learned:

1. Book your hotel early. They sell out fast.

2. Auburn has one of the most beautiful campuses in the galaxy. The stadium is right in the middle of campus so it’s easy to find. While there are a few areas where most Auburn tailgaters congregate, their fans do something I’ve never seen before…. they set up their tailgating all across the campus. You’ll be walking between buildings and come up on a small patch of grass where a family’s set up their gear and they’re out their bbq’ing with 20 of their closest friends. It’s an awesome atmosphere and nearly all of their fans were very hospitable.

3. Wear a beer-bong. Seriously. I wore a beer bong with an orange funnel that I’d named War Eagle. Kid you not, there wasn’t a single tailgate I passed that I wasn’t invited to. There were well over 500 beers taken from War Eagle that day. Not sure if the video’s still up but there was an Auburn sorority chick that wanted War Eagle. We doubled her up, had a crowd of 100 cheering her on, and she put the beers down in less than two seconds. It was the most holy thing I’ve ever seen.

4. The “official” Coug tailgate party was lame as usual. They almost kicked me out for grabbing the microphone that was sitting lonely on a table and starting the fight song. The alums loved it, WSU’s staff - not so much. If you were at the tailgate in Vegas last year, it’s very similar to that. Over-priced beer, not very good food, and just sitting around, wondering when the game starts. I’d highly recommend skipping the tailgate (unless you’ve got money to burn and don’t enjoy a good adventure) and roaming Auburn with a War Eagle and a Coug jersey on; everyone will LOVE you.

5. Beer bongs are not allowed inside the stadium.

6. If you’re a golfer and have a few extra days, bring your sticks. They have some incredible courses down there.
