Very solid tackler. The play always ends where he meets the ball carrier. I have seen harder hitters but maybe few who wrap up like he does while also stopping forward momentum. I was a little surprised at the 5*'s but who am I?

It is a bit surprising to me that any 2015 prospect would already be listed as a 5 star.

4* or 5* ?

James, who is from Auburndale (Fla.), is a four-star who is ranked No. 35 overall and as the No. 2 safety. He is ranked No. 8 overall in Florida.

I go by the composite because it weighs all 4 sites equally so 5. Link

Interesting, I can't find another site who has ranked him yet...

There is not any yet. Apparently a 96 on 247 is not a raw 96 when put in as part of the composite.

Well I guess I don't understand the composite then ... I thought it was an aggregation of all rankings (i.e., Rivals, Scout, ESPN) ... if no other site has ranked him, how do they arrive at a composite 5* score?

I just figured it out. Go to the composite rankings page for 2015. Link It's not based on a raw score. The number 1 prospect is given a score of 1 or 100 if you multiply by 100 no matter what his raw score is. The kid from Hawaii is 99 on 247 but gets 100 on the composite for being the top rated recruit. If there is only 1 company ranked so far then every prospect drops by .0004 for each spot regardless of what their raw score is. For example #2 prospect is .9996, #3 is .9992, ect. Therefore James composite grade is exclusively made on him being the 35th highest rated player and has nothing to do with his raw score on 247 which is 96. His composite score is .9863. Anything .9833 and higher on the composite is a 5*.

That's why you get the big $$$ EL. Just to clarify, I wasn't saying he didn't deserve a 5* rating. His film just lacked that certain je ne sais quoi.

http://auburn.247sports.com/Bolt/Two-still-chasing-five-star-James-30052652

Longtime Florida State commit Derwin James told 247Sports.com on Monday morning that two programs are still recruiting him outside of the Seminoles. "Auburn and Ohio State," James said. The nation's No. 1 safety may take official visits to both of those programs. "I don't know yet," James said. The five-star recruit remains a solid pledge to Florida State.

If we can pull this off, I might explode. Not just picking up a massive talent like this but also taking it away from the Criminoles.. It's just too much.

imho taking him from FSU would be even sweeter than snatching TT from UGA

Nah... We need DT's in the worst way. I do hope we get derwin though.
